Hello everyone,

I really want to improve at texturing models, and i thought that using the mouse for painting is simply retarded, so i thought i would buy a painting tablet, but i don't know which one i need, i heard alot of people recommending wecom's bamboo tablet, i went to their site but it looked too small, is that it? and is this size fine? and oh well, how good is it with photoshop? well i have totally NO IDEA about how it works, but from the vids at wecom, it looked easy and helpful

i would be really thankful if you share your thoughts about the best one to buy, somewhere between 100 and 200 dollars, cheaper would be better, of course ^^

also, from some videos i saw, the tablet has no screen, from a first look, it seems hard to draw on it while looking at the screen, is there a tablet with a built-in screen? (if so, it's probably 500$+ right? xD)

thanks

I have a bamboo fun an its fine. A5 is a great size, A4 is all the better, but i didnt have the extra £70 at the time. What you need to understand is that the four corners on th epad are the four corners of you screen. hot button and prgramable pen make it perfect for photoshop and alike. Itss also fine for normal browsing and average day use. It pretty much replaces my normal mouse.

Im eating while doing this so excuse any bad grammer.

I got a bamboo not so long ago, even though I have a cheaper-brand A4 tablet, the Bamboo wipes the floor with it!

It might seem small, but for texturing it's just fine. Your not gonna paint your whole texture, full screen - your more likely to work in details, and the bamboo is great for that. If found it far more responsive, and really quite fun to use. I got a weird art package with it for free, can't remember the name but it's made specially for tablets and has simulated paint etc. I'm even using that for game backdrops. It's the best purchase I've made in a few years. The one I got is silver grey, maybe look for that as opposed to touch tablets or any of these new style tablets. This is the one I got, and I recommend it at that price!

I already have PS. And I've always wanted Sketchbook ever since I saw the work Neodileto (sorry, don't know how to spell it) did with it. I then bought the Sketchbook Pro App for the iPad and I was in love

How much will that Intous 4 cost?

Oh. Nevermind My bamboo was 80 or 90 USD, and I'm perfectly happy with it.

Nah, it's called ArtRage, probably not as feature-filled, but I'm a die-hard PaintShopPro user, so got that as it's kinda an opposite - it's quite organic and good for backdrops and stuff while I use PSP for texturing and everything else. PSP is damn fiddly for setting up tablets, you have to specify what the pen controls for each tool, unlike PhotoShop which seems to make good assumptions.

Now, if someone would just write a plugin to read the pen pressure... Imagine editing terrain with a tablet, it would be an entirely different sport!.

The main thing is though, you can't go wrong with a Wacum, even the very cheap options are pretty great. Hand cramps aside of course . Although, I don't think I used my other tablet long enough to get a cramp, so it must be a good thing.

I don't know about PSP, but I know Photoshop does have pressure sensitivity automagically. I also like the fact that if you flip the pen upside down, it uses it an eraser. Personally, I think the buttons on the pen are a little awkward to use but that might just be how I hold it.

I would suggest a Bamboo fun if you don't want to spend a lot and still want to have a great tablet.

i think ill buy this one : http://cgi.ebay.com/Wacom-Bamboo-Pen-and-Touch-Brand-New-Box-/160451137955?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Collectables_InputDevices_RL&hash=item255ba211a3

it's size looks good.
also, if you for example zoom in an image in photoshop, the tablet's corners are the new zoomed corners right?

oh and, once again, why bamboo fun and not the normal one? they have the same features but the normal one is 100$ cheaper

no, since the tablets corners are the corners of your screen

I'm guessing it's fun, because it has touch as well - so you can finger paint, and do all that touch stuff like rotate and zoom. Actually, that sounds great! - wish I'd got that one now.

I have always held my pens and pencils reeeeally close to the tip, so the 'left-click' button is a little farther up than I would like it to be.

I have a bamboo fun, and it does not have touch. I do get a lot of use out of the zoom/pan and the function buttons at the top, however.

Anybody bought a wacom with screen?
Thinking of buying one, but was wondering if it worked well.

I guess it works fine. I am thinking on one of these 2:
PL-521 LCD tablet
Cintiq 12WX LCD tablet

"Fromage Cake"

the bamboo looked really small only 147mm x 91mm active area, i've searched for something else and i found this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350174701293&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

it's MUCH bigger than the bamboo, 10 x 6.25 inches (254x160 mm), almost double size, and its cheaper, what do you guys think?

I couldn't really find a brand name on there, but after looking on google, "Aiptek" seems to be it.

Oh, and here is an even cheaper one. I don't know if they would ship it to Iraq or not, but there are some user reviews there.

I can't give much of an opinion other than what I have read, but it seems it is more for business and even other sites say it is great for beginners, but not for artists.

I believe that the most used tablet would be the Wacom Bamboo tablet.
Because its generally very nice to use and its priced ok.

Try look for an intuos3 on ebay, with the new release of the intuos4, people will be trying to sell their older tablets:

Size isnt the first thing you should really worry about, it is important, but accuracy and sensitivity are so much better to have.

i've read some good reviews about the sensitivity of that tablet (the one i linked)
Quote: "I love it! It’s sensitive enough that Photoshop detects even the slightest differences in pressure, and using this thing in Adobe Flash is incredible."
