md2 animation works in DarkBASIC_Professional_Online_54_90 but not in 7.4/7.5.

I've been trying to animate md2 and use them in dbpro 7.5.
I remember when I bought my 1st copy of dbp online 5.9 and I used misfit modeler 3d to make a small animation and it worked.
I went back to misfit a few days ago and been messing around with a dump truck model.Made a dump animation tried in dpro 7.5 ,loops the frame numbers but dose not play.Tried some peoples suggestions from the forums here, but no luck.

Today I was sick of messing around and installed my DarkBASIC_Professional_Online_54_90 (repair) right over top of 7.5 and the dump truck was animating like a champ.

But half of the plugins I bought dont work with 5.9

Is this some kinda bug or loss of funtionality in dbp ?

I attached a zip with 2 versions 1 compiled with 5.9 and the other compiled with 7.5 and the code/media.

I was going to buy 3D Canvas but that thing crashes if I look at it funny ...on 2 different computers and I wont even waste my time trying it on 3 more.

I own AC3D if anyone knows how to convert x-plane animated objects to x could be helpfull to me.

Tried a few of the older upgrades and md2 animate fine in 7.1 and 7.2 and stop working in 7.3 ,7.4 and 7.5.

I only seem to have 1 unreconized plugin now at 7.2.
It dose not tell me which one.

Please let it not be dark net.

Edit : its Dark Net DarkNet_DBPro_011009/DarkNet_DBPro_150409

I looked over upgrade7_3.txt,upgrade7_4.txt and upgrade7_5.txt.
I do not see anything about removing md2 animations.

I guess I will be using 7.2 and Multi Sync 1.4 with md2 models until this is fixed or something.

I have a few dark net projects.

I see a few mods/devs on,hello o o o?

Are you using fastsync?

Something changed in the fastsync command so it will not update animations now.

Ah i figured it was the model you uploaded, ok.

Well,
Try "Loop Object 1,1,20" instead of setting the frames yourself?
Need "Set Object Speed 1, Speed" also though.

I cannot get it to animate in v 7.4 either, no matter what I try.

It seems like the model loads into Milkshape okay. Would you like me to rig and animate it and export it as an .x file for you? If so, please list all of the animations you want.

LB

EDIT: It was easier to set up than I expected. Attached is an .x file with it dumping. I would suggest setting the object speed to 30 or so.

Thanks LBFN ,but I was looking for a modeler to use with the ease of use as of ac3d except with some kind of animation(MM3D).
Nice animation though.

I don't really care much for these modeling programs 3D Canvas,Blender,Milkshape,Truespace,CharacterFX and Anim8or that I have tried and anything over 70 bucks.

I'm just a little dissapointed at darkbasicpro 7.3 and above for not doing md2 animations as it knocks 1 model format dbpro 7.3 and above supports off the list.
X, DBO, 3DS, MDL?, MD2 or MD3 .

So I'm at 7.2 ,uninstalled DarkNet threw in multisync and my Norton Sonar no longer bothers me when building for some reason.

Edit : Hey whata ya know the one I compiled with 5.9 also works fine in wine. lol
I usually use xp/vista but just attached a screen shot running in wine for the hell of it.

Well, to be honest. I was always a little disappointed that I wasn't been able to load an MD3 model in DBPro. Maybe it´s me, being to stupid. I don't know. But MD2 models always worked for me and TyJBr2 is right. Now they don't and it's another model support that's gone and I think it's really a shame.

I like to program in DBPro. It's a great language. Has some flaws, but in over 90% of all the little things I created (mostly for fun) it worked. And now that. Is it really so complicated to have a working MD2 and MD3 support.

I know we have all the FPSC model packs (I own them all), but I have little apps using MD2 models and now I´m not able to expand them because in the actual version of DBPro the functionality seems to be broken. You can still load MD2 models, but animation is not working.

Maybe it´s possible for someone working on DBPro (because of now being open source) to look into it. That would be really great. Maybe, because other people giving Lee a helping hand, we could also have a working MD3 support.

I have made a few md3's and when they / if they load I see nothing.
I wish that md2 animations worked in dbp 7.3 or greater ,because of them not working I feel like its a down grade instead of an upgrade.

I think even adding a few more model types to the list dbp can load would be good.

Why not make a converter using the older version of DBPro which supports MD2/MD3 which saves them out as .dbo. Then the animations will work in the latest version too

Taken off of another forum.

Quote: "
The dx7 and dx8 formats don't support vertex animation so you can't convert md2 to dx7 or dx8, it is simply impossible.

On the contrary it's possible to convert dx7 and dx8 to md2 because you can always convert a hierarchy (dx7) or skeletal (dx8) animation to a vertex (md2) animation.
"

Thats about the best thing I can find explaining md2 to x conversion. If theres something better let me know.

So to convert to dbo it would have to be converted to x or 3ds then converted to dbo?

Would it even hold its animations after all the converting?

No, No, Diggsey was suggesting you write a converter using DBPro v5.9; something which loads in your .MD2 animation, and then saves as a .DBO

Well from just looking at what others have made, I figured the model had to be in X or 3DS format to convert to dbo format.
Some one probably would have made one by now? And if so where?

I really don't think I should have to do all that for something that says it is supported in the instruction manual and on the features pages.

I'm using 7.2 because md2 animations still work up to that version.
New editor out of the upgrade ,works decent with 7.2.

@TyJBr2
All you have to do is this:

Run that in a version of DBPro where the animations work, and it will convert your .md2 model to a .dbo model. This .dbo model will work in all versions of DBPro.

just load object like this: load object "object_name.md2",1
and save it like this: save object "object_name.dbo",1. And that's it.

Did not work for 7.5.Animation was lost, just loops frames numbers.
It does work for 7.2 though.

I did try.
Yes I used and an older working version to save the dbo.

I always thought that a conversion like this (md2 --> dbo) will not work because of what mentioned before.

So I thought you will loose the animation information even when saving as dbo.

From what I think I know ,dbp converts all objects to dbo at runtime.

Converting md2 to dbo with 7.2 and running it in 7.2 worked fine.
Running the 7.2 dbo in 7.5 did not and lost the animation.

Sounds like a bug then, post in the bug reports section with the .dbo file that worked in 7.2 and doesn't in 7.5, and some code which works in 7.2 and doesn't in 7.5.
