Sonar freaks outs on Norton Security Suite when building anything with 7.5 dbp and I have to disable sonar.

With 7.2 dbp I can build away with Sonar on and no problems.

I know this is a 50/50 problem ,norton/dbp 7.5.

But something in 7.5 makes it flip out that doesnt happen with 7.2.

I had the same problem with DBPro Free Edition and NIS2010 and had to switch off SONAR to stop it zapping editornew.exe and any compilations of Projects.

I took this up with Symantec, and in a nutshell, they said that switching off SONAR only switches off low risk (i.e. high risk heuristics is still enabled), and if you use the Exclude Settings (Computer - Settings - Exclusions - Scan Exclusions - Configure - Real Time Protection Exclusions) and add a Folder there (with the option of including Subfolders), SONAR will exclude it from taking action. I tried it and it seems to work for me.

Also, they said that there are some improvements scheduled for the release of NIS2011 later this year (not official release from Symantec, just a comment from the Support Forums).

I submitted a False Positive Report to Symantec, so maybe this action will be resolved in one of their updates.

Its not really a big deal just something to post about.

It all depends on what you consider a show stopper.

Just gets on my nerves because other people I know that use Norton. I have to explain to them its not a virus and tell them to allow it before I can "show" them what I am working on.
Yes it does it to even exe's shared with friends.

I guess I'll call it a show slower upper.

Anyway, I got a reply from Symantec which should be good news:

In light of further investigation and analysis Symantec is happy to remove this detection from within its products.

The updated detection will be distributed in the next set of virus definitions, available daily, or weekly via LiveUpdate, depending on Symantec product version, or daily from our website at
