Hey guys,

Recently Kieth C has given an indefinate leave of absence (and I'm sure I remember Nickydude has do e the same for a period of time). What is tgc doing about the reduction of mods? I think only Thraxas remains on these boards with the occasional visit from Nickydude.

My question is, will new mods be found? And if new mods are made will they be current TGC users or will they be completely new people?

I'd like to vote Kravenwolf as a mod. He's already a valued member and unlike Ply, s4real or Hockykid, he's not too busy to spend time modding. Just a vote from me

If there not curret users then forget what I've said

Thanks,
Arenas

There are other mods besides Thraxas and Nickydude that are on the forums that moderate.

I'm doing a teacher's exam (which involves lots of essay writing) so I'm not as involved but I do still frequent the forums.

It's tough, but I'm confident you will do well.

Here, for the teacher:

Best of luck.

I'd vote for Flatlander if he wanted it. Because he's old and awesome. A part of me would love to see him put an old-school Grandpa-beatdown on some young whippersnappers. I'm talking Clint Eastwood style.

I have to agree. You should see what happens when I'm behind on my coding with RPG Mod. I hear the spurs rattle and that wind sound...

Thanks for the vote! Unfortunately, I haven't been spending as much time on the boards as I used to be, either. I've been pretty busy with my job away from home, and most of the time that I do have around the house has been spent doing freelance work for clients. I haven't had the chance to work on my own game for awhile now, or update my store account with new assets, or even update my free media thread. Hopefully I'll be able to get caught up during the rest of the summer, and by fall, go back to spending a large part of my day here

What is for certain, is not just any common forum dweller can take the ascent from generous contributor to manly mod. Every moderator has high expectations to live up to that many of us are simply not cut out for. As you can see here in Keith's farewall video, it's a mighty leap for most of us to make. Choose well, TGC. Choose well.

So your having IQ reduction therapy :p

Back on topic
I own a small-medium sized old dreamcast forum, have been a mod/admin etc on a few and can tell you mods need very very thick skins and a good sense of humour. As a mod (a good one at least) you cannot have any kind of ego problem and need the ablitity to remember you were once a normal member too. Otherwise they tend to turn into little dictators on little power trips, thinking a mod must lock ever topic they (personally) do not agree with

The current mods here are excellent and a joy to behold. They feel like part of the family, a best friend and breed respect from the memberbase. I'm a very old man (late 40's) and yet feel younger than the mods due to the maturity of their actions.

We are lucky that this forum (so far) has a very good memberbase to a whole. This is a lot to do with the easy friendly nature of our mod team and TGC staff. Where they lead we follow, any new mod(s) will have to keep up the good work.

I'm way way to new to FPSC to select anyone (apart from Bond1 and EAI as they are gods ) but there are many I (personally) enjoy listening to (reading what they write):

BOND1, EAI, rolfy, Kravenwolf, Flatlander, Cosmic Prophet, Xplosys, Plystire, S4real, knxb. These are the people that inspire me here the most (don't take offence if I your not there) but would they make a good mod?? I have no idea.

Your signature has been erased by a mod. The sig needs to be 600 width maximum (x 120 height) for all of it.

Bond1, EAI, Knxrb, Ply and s4real I assume all lead verybusy lives (in some cases I know this is true) and I'm not sure they would accept the position to be honest. Kravenwolfwolf can't be included cause he has just turned down my vote cause due to being too busy also. I'm not sure who else I would vote for now :/ Perhaps find someone to make an account called KeithC and vote him in

Kravenwolf, if you need help managing the many things you have going on then I'd be happy to help if you wanted you could send me a few dispatch jobs and I could write the thread for you to save you a bit of time Just a thought... If you want to make your threads more personal having been written by you I completely understand

Ahaha, I would be a great mod if all you needed was time on here. Considering I'm on like 5+ hours a day checking every single new post

Tho, if we had to vote I would say flatlander.

I personally know Knxrb and I think he is much too busy to accept the position of mod

Quite a few people I can think of here are too young I think Cosmic may make a good mod

It is not just the age only when you are looking for moderators. Both my wife and I moderate on quite a few forums and have done so for a long time. To be a successful moderator, you need to not just have the experience, but you need to be able to be able to handle various situations with a level of professionalism and keep a level objectivity when dealing with different users of different backgrounds, ages, etc. Moderators have a hard job, often times it is thankless, for all that they do and perform. On some forum boards they have to keep the forums clean of the "garbage" and ensure some form of uniformity (structure) is maintained. They have to step into debates and flaming comments and be able to diffuse situations. They take a lot of garbage from some users when they attempt to perform their role, either in the form of abusive comments or emails. Moderators have to put their personal feelings behind them when they face a barrage of insults, when deep down they are human and want to probably bury the person in six feet of concrete (just an example). It takes a lot to be a moderator on any forum, and moderators have a unique skill set that comes not just with age, but wisdom and experience. The moderators that are here have not just earned our respect, but they also give respect to all the members as well.

Send me some!!

Anyways, I think I read somewhere that there are annual surveys in which the guys at 'TGC HQ'(Lets put it that way) decide to choose responsible users as mods, correct me if I'm wrong. Will there be something like that?

Well in answer to my question I guess that there is no urgent need to add a new moderator to the forum as we seem to have plenty in reserve I suppose if there is something which had been overlooeked by a mod we can give them an email about it

Not knowing the time it actually takes to moderate this place, I can't say if we have enough mods or not. I'm thinking that we do - even without Keith - but the mods may see it differently. One thing I know for sure though, is that it's 99% better now than it was when I joined, and you can thank the current mod squad for that. If a new mod is appointed in the future, his or her job of maintaining this place will be much easier than it was to get it in this shape.

We don't need more mods, we need the ones we have already to manage the FPSC forums better, as in catch all the members who are breaking the rules more often and hand out more noob slaps so they can't spam threads like they have been doing recently.

But that can also be down to the average FPSC user. Just email a mod if you think something is happening which is against the rules. I have done that recently and the mod agreed and thread was locked. It isn't entirely down to the mods, you can help too
