Okay, I have no idea how to do this, and I've been searching for nearly a month now, so, how exactly do I make a weapon in 3DS Max for FPSC? I know the model has to be linked to bones, but how are the bones placed and are they linked to the 'SMOKE' bone? I've made a model, but I want to make sure it's right. I've attached a video of my model. Any kind of guidance or support is welcome.

Read the Official Community guide, it has a weapon tutorial.

Cheers,

I've read that, but Milkshape messes up my animations (merges them together) so I need a tutorial for 3DS Max.

Use the bone names and linking methods from the Milkshape tutorial and apply them to 3ds Max. Shouldnt be too hard.

Cheers,
Anayar

One question though, do I link all the other bones to the SMOKE bone?

My Dad's company used 3DS Max (9 NOT 10) for a while, but then started to use Ansys. My Dad got himself and I a licence, but then I FINALLY saved up enough money to upgrade. Therefore, the only respect goes to my Dad. LOL.

Nonetheless, my Dad is jealous now.

Sincerely,

You can purchase max from a reseller on a subscription or monthly payment plan. Autodesk is having trouble moving units right now and want you money in any way they can get it. Go to their web site and find a reseller and call all the ones that pop up and they will fight each other tooth and nail to give you a better deal than the other guy. I would say right now if you paid more than 40% of what the list price says on their web site you paid too much. It's like buying a car. Haggle, haggle, haggle, and they will drop the price. Not to say this guy ain't loaded, he might be. But you can get some great deals if you ask. We use a few autodesk products at work and right now they are pretty much wining and dining us to buy from this guy or that guy.

I am kind of well off because my dad. I (mostly he) paid about $1,500 for the upgrade, I didn't even know what savings were back then (which was only a few months ago) but now I really am kicking myself, because like you said, you can get a better price if you try multiple sellers. It's kind of like when my dad was buying a wood stove, he called about 5 people selling one, and then he got it for a whopping $200!

Coffeegrunt, Student or work at home copy? I only ask because most people don't read the EULA and don't realize student copies can't be used to make media for commercial games or model packs. If you got it another method let me know how you pulled that off because I plan to buy it this December through imaginit technologies and could sure use some more insight before I spend that kind of cash on my own.

Ha, Sorry to hijack your thread like that. Try this one first

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=176472&b=24

It's for fragmotion, but the same process. Then run a search here. Someone gave away a great pair of arm, I tried searching it for you but had no luck remembering what the title was. But the arms where in fragmotion and max, textured and rigged already. If I find the link I will edit this and link it here.

Edit: Here you go might be a good start

Actually, I found it out a while ago. But, thank you for your help, this would've helped me out A LOT a bit back in time. Plus, you didn't hijack my thread, I love talking about anything to people.

Thanks,
Akanto
