Hey everyone! I've been using fpsc for a while now, but am starting to grow tired of just creating new textures for pre-existing models or using somebody elses. I would love to learn how to create my own models, but there are so many different programs out thier I wouldn't know which one to choose!

If anyone has any suggestions on any good or decent modeling programs I would greatly appreciate it. It would be preferible if you could find one that either was free or didn't cost me an arm and a leg.

Thank you!!

I myself don't model, but from what I've seen, alot of users on these forums use Milkshape 3D. To my knowledge it's a free program (but I might be wrong), so just search it up on Google.

This question has been asked a lot and there is now ideal modelling program that is ideal for everyone.

So the ideal modelling program is the one that is the most productive for You and you alone, i.e. the one you yourself feels happy with and least daunting experience.

Free ones: Blender is the best of the bunch for overall power, then Wings3D for ease of use and smallest learning curve.
(Yes Sketchup is free also, but I really don't rate it for making FPSC ready models myself)

Cheap ones: Milkshape is cheap and easy to use, then Fragmotion is a little more expensive, but has better animation and UV mapping, plus a few handy extras over Milkshape (in my opinion).

My advice though is try them all, or at least as many as you can until your happy with one. Most have demo's and of course some are totally free, so just poke and hope with a few programs then chose.

30-40 replies of MyFave modelling app is best (because I use it so there :p ) are not going to help you in any way

Metasequoia is also a great place to start if you're new to 3D modeling.

It has an EXTREMELY easy learning curve, can save files in DirectX format, has an automatic UV mapper with a "paint" mode for map editing (I suggest downloading Lithunwrap for your UV map editing, another FREE program).

A powerful free version is offered with enough features to get you going.

Just be sure to uncheck the "Basic" mode after dowloading.

A lot of people don't realize this and end up ditching the software before realizing its full potential

Wings 3D and the free version of Uv Mapper is an easy introduction to the less-easy world of proper modelling. Some people like Sketchup as a first modeller because it's so easy, but then you have a hard time teaching them how to model properly and uv-map properly.

I'd love to see things from your point of view but I can't get my head that far up my bum.
