On or about 8/20/2010, fpsFREE.com will go silent. After much consideration, I have decided not to renew the domain and keep up with the virtual plethora of excellent, free content made available by our generous and talented members. Not to worry though, as I have asked Mike and Cathy (BlackFox and BlueFox)to grab any and all content they don't already have and host it for us. They have graciously agreed to do so.

If there is anyone who has provided content for distribution on fpsFREE.com who does not want it to be hosted by them, please let us know here or by email and we will be sure to honor your request. I can't think of any reason why someone would not want to have them host their content, but in a very few cases the distribution deal was made specifically with me, so I don't want to take anything for granted. I will be advising him on any content for which we must get approval.

Anyway, it was an honor and privilege to host it for you and I thank you all for your trust and generosity.

Thanks to Mike and Cathy for accepting the job and to Terry (FLATLANDER) for aiding in the coordination.

Brian.

No problem Brian. We're happy to help out. We're grabbing the folder you set for us and will cross-reference what we have already vs what you have. Then we will get the content we don't have posted in the download archive.

xplosys, I will happily pay for the domain to be renewed if you so wish and have it hosted by my provider. A great site like this shouldn't have to go down. It's been my main provider of content for a few years, so I'd be more than happy to support it. Let me know if you're interested.

Ah, this is a shame to hear Xplosys. Things happen for a reason though I suppose. Your site was always the #1 place to go for free FPSC related media in my eyes, for a number of years! And I still remember the first time I really looked and saw just how many of the models were made by you! Needless to say I was quite impressed

Thanks for all these years of bringing us quality work so conveniently -- it was appreciated

And thank you to Mike and Cathy for keeping it all alive!

Cheers.

Life would be much easier if I had the source code.

WOW
I never would have seen this one coming.
All I can say is...Wow!

You have a lot of time invested in that site, and it is a success.
I mean, it's none of my business, but it seems like a lot of hard work is being undone.

Yeah, if its a hosting thing I'll pitch in.
It doesn't seem right that your site would ever have an end, especially now.

Thanks for the offer.

I have a commercial hosting account with unlimited space and sites for my clients and the domain name is about $8.00 a year, so it's not an issue of cost. It's an issue of work. I have not updated the site for a couple of months now and I just don't have the time and will it needs devoted to it.

Quote: "You have a lot of time invested in that site, and it is a success."

Thanks. It takes constant attention to keep it fresh and up-to-date. If someone were will to take on the job, I would hand it over to them.

I would gladly administrate the website.I have 6 years of web-programming experience , so even if it's static(html only) it wouldn't be a problem to be converted into a php-based website.I also have a paid hosting account with domain if you don't want to keep paying for the domain.I'm not looking for a profit and i'm also an artist(somewhat lol) giving away free stuff to the community.
I know what maintaining a dynamic website is and how much time it takes.

Of course it's your call , but I had to offer my services. It would be sad to see this website disappear.I mean I(as well as many others) find it very useful and visit it a lot.

Brian,

Mike sent an email to you to let you know he has everything downloaded. He filled me in with your conversation from today. Sorry to see you go, but we are more than happy to facilitate your request.

I will now be sifting through the material to get it all organized and then email the authors to ensure we have permission to post here. Once that is completed, we can get it online. A lot of the content was mainly yours, and you had already informed us we could post your content. I think there are mainly a few authors to contact by the looks of my list. We will get it all sorted and finalized.

Cathy

Uhhh, I hate to see the website go away but hey, is anybody paying any attention?

All of the media will be available on the site black and blue fox has.

Black and blue -- that is what I bet they feel like as everybody is ignoring them.

A great kudos to Brian but one needs to go to Mike and Cathy as well for taking on the task of providing the same. The look may be different but I believe all will be available unless someone wants to withdraw their media from being published there.

I know I don't do a lot of talking on any of the TGC boards any more (mainly just surf), but I am sad to see this going.

I remember way back talking on IRC about the site and all of its content Brian.

Hopefully someone will step in and take it over. I can offer my services in porting it over to a PHP Framework if needed.

Best of luck to you Brian and thank you for all the time and effort you have put into that site.

I would be interested in running the site if you want to move it over and can host it on my server and will pay for the domain, just send the whole site in a zip file and i can have it running any time. I can also port it over to PHP in future to allow easier management but for now i think users will be happy with the site just staying online.

Let me know if you wanted me to do this i can be contacted via email if you want to talk that way.

Get unlimited space and un-metered bandwidth hosting email me i will beat any other host

I find it disturbing that people don't read other posts that people have made in this thread. Brian has already stated that the reason he is not continuing fpsFREE.com is that he does not have time to keep it current and fresh. It is not that he can't afford it or can't host it.

The content of the site has ALREADY been handed over to Blackfox and myself to host on our site so that it is still readily available to everyone to download.

So asking Xplosys continually to host the site or make a new one is futile.

Thank you Flatlander for trying to convey this message as well, although I feel it falls on deaf ears sometimes.

Thank you Brian for allowing us to to host this material from your site so that it is still available for download.

Although the gestures here by many are appreciated, and understandable...as Cathy has stated above (and as was previously mentioned), the deal is done...so to speak.

I think we all need to lend any support, and well wishes to the Foxes for the continuation of the content and spirit that was fpsFREE.com.

Although your comments are appreciated Keith, it is quite alright. I have had a conversation via email with Brian this morning and told him if he wanted to pass the site to someone else to host, that was fine with me. Our intention was to get the content of those authors we already have on our site posted, then contact the remaining authors to ask permission to post their content, so that nothing was lost in the shuffle. We're not interested in ruffling the feathers of a few that can't appreciate the intention we put forward, and we certainly don't want to spend any more time and resources on something that no one will appreciate. We can focus on more important tasks.

Thanks anyways.

Any chance of fixing up the downloads? Alot of stuff didn't actually work out of the box due to bad texture paths in FPEs, etc. And this is a better time to work through them before reuploading...

It's a shame FPS Free's going down it's been a part of this community for so long. It's a pity this community's lost so much lately.

It's just a website. What's important is the content and that's taken care of. Others will come along just as before and make new ones. It's not depressing, or sad, or a loss to the community. It's just another change. Get used to it.

No, I'm still breathing. You couldn't throw me outta here! When I have more time, I'll get back to modeling again and see if this old dog can learn any new tricks.

EDIT: Signs V is still available on the site. Next month, we'll make other arrangements. Thanks for your continued support.

It wasn’t a matter of not appreciating your offer, because I know I appreciate it and I'm sure the majority of the community does.
I think people may have been confused about the passing of the site when Blackfox said...

Quote: "No problem Brian. We're happy to help out. We're grabbing the folder you set for us and will cross-reference what we have already vs what you have. Then we will get the content we don't have posted in the download archive."

…it made it sound as if the site would lose its look and feel that it has now.
I think the other offers were made in the hopes of maintaining the site in a similar design that they have all grown used to admiring over the years.
Maybe I’m mistaken about the intentions of the other offers, but no offense was intended on my part.
I think the archive and a mirror site would be great, because having more than one source to the downloads would allow for 100% up time should one site be experiencing any kind of technical problems and both preferences of design would be accommodated. (although either one is fine alone)
Just a thought, and sorry if anything I said rubbed you the wrong way because I never intended that.

Sorry, to cut into this love feast. Ha Ha, Brian knows that I think he is a stand up, professional and has given a lot to this comunity. I just wanted to add one thing. Signs will be retiring after fpsFREE has been taken down. I have updated my site www.fpscOnline.com/news with the info. So, if you would like to purchase Signs, do it now from fpsFREE. Once fpsFREE.com comes downs Signs will be officially be retired. (I just wish I could retire too

If you have any questions about Signs please direct them to me at the email profile below. Brian will stay for a short time and be the distributer for Signs.

Thank you for all you have done for the community, I just hope you have fun along the way Brian.

Thanks for the update Terry and all you've done for the community as well. Signs is to me, the best all around program ever created for FPSC, but I can imagine that FPSC has evolved beyond the point of updating Signs for it. I wonder if you'll have something new for us? I'll be watching.

Future updates to FPSC will no doubt add features that once required third party programs making some obsolete and forcing others to go in different direction. There are more changes to come.

I don't see why not, that's what we all did. I added some other things... screenshots, featured artists and content, news, links, etc, and tried to make it a little different. I think Spanish language is a great idea and I'm all about replication these days.

You're welcome to my free content, and as always, contact other artist to get permission from them as well. The site will be up for another 20 days so get what you need while you can.

Best of luck with it.
