Hey, well I don't know how this post will be received but I thought I would air my thoughts.

About a year ago I was emailed by a chappy who wanted to remake Beyond Life, making use of the latest updates. I can't remember the chaps name but I rather rudely ignored him, despite the horrific loading time of BL I rather like it left alone, it's a reminder of the first iteration of FPS Creator and helps form that timeline which shows us how far the program has come along.

I have the story for BL2 and 3 but I can now hold up my hands and say with confidence, I have an absolute zero chance of working on it as I simply don't have the spare time. So it occurred to me, if there are still people that enjoy the game, maybe someone would like me to pass the torch onto them.

So here is my idea, providing:

- I am credited on the game menu screen as the original creator of the series (text only)
- I provide the Beyond Life 2 logo
- The games story loosely follows the main BL story which is already written.

Then I would be happy for someone to create Beyond Life 2 and call it THEIR baby, It would have nothing to do with me but I would give it my blessing. I wouldn't expect you to show me anything, I wouldn't expect you to ask my permission for things, I wouldn’t want you to worry about whether I approve of anything. this game will be YOURS.

So that's it I suppose, if you wish to create the sequel then reply to this thread, I will contact the successful candidate by email to say they have my blessing. I would however prefer to pass the torch to someone who can make their own entities and segments etc.
In keeping things realistic, lets have it as a single level like the previous game.

I understand that this might come across as me being ultra lazy, but I can assure you I would love the opportunity to work on the sequel, seeing as the YouTube videos still get a lot of attention maybe this thread will please a few people ? Who knows

If I didn't have hundreds of other things to do I would gladly like to do this.
But I bet there are lots of other people wich can make your game.

Just dont release the rights to the first person saying they want to do it.

Even though I have been under a pretty tight schedule these last couple of months, I think this would be the perfect project to dust off FPS Creator and get back into the cycle. And I have been wanting to try my hand at a grungy, sci-fi, Dead-Spaceish environment in FPSC for some time now. I should be able to fit it in with my schedule, considering you're only looking for a single level adventure. Wehtam, I'd be more than happy to give this a shot I just hope Cyborg Arts hasn't jynxed me!

Someone who is known to have the will to go to he building process and beyond with it and has a good level design. I have the second (in my opinion) but hte first one may be a problem. And it doesen't seem like a game I would be capable to do...

I love Beyond Life, and reading this post just makes me want to play it again.

Best of luck to whoever picks up this fantastic opportunity. I'd love to, but I'm pushed for time as well.

Is there any chance I could get involved in the form of writing a detailed story (obviously retaining everything Beyond Life) / script and doing some concept art for the game? I'm no good at making media tho', because I'm pretty good at writing.

Wehtam_,

Don't worry that we might think you to be lazy. You have proven your ambition and ability to follow through more than once.

BL is a worthy concept that I would love to see carried on and I believe that Kravenwolf could really do it justice. I don't think you could find much better.

Its not an offense, just saying, that maybe some custom 100 game is needed, and well, your work is getting there, but you have made "no media" and you need to improve yet, as i am here, i think Kravenwolf is for the win, his levels are always great

Look at his videos, actually if thatis an offense, then i am offensed too

Kravenwolf is one of the BEST LEVEL DESIGNER, and its 100 better then me

Get both of them to do it?

In theory, theres nothing stopping opening a thread where the community can contribute assets and such, and have a reputable developer putting together the level, adding the lighting and such

I think he's right, Wetham was the original designer of BL, I think he should make the next BL, or it won't feel right, playing the second BL.

EDIT:whoops, I got my F's and L's mixed up.....it happens.

Beyond Five. Don't you know, it's the newest craze!

I never got past the loading screen, so I haven't played the first one, wich means I don't have a special bond with it, as some of you here seem to have, so I think that it's a great idea to let someone else continue it. Just someone good so there wont be anymore breaking the perfect circle...

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Outdoorgamer. Or at least, I'm one of those that would be hard to bend. I'm the kind of guy that tears down several hours of work if one thing doesn't look right to me, and start all over again. So, if someone else's models don't seem to flow with the rest of the level, I would have to ask for a redo, or make some changes, which (if I were in their shoes) I wouldn't fancy. It wouldn't be the easiest thing in the world to work on a project with me. Plystire and me tried to join forces in the past for the Christmas competition (before it was confirmed teams were not allowed); and we just couldn't come to an agreement as to what we wanted to do with the setting and environments.

In any case, two developers can also become a double-edged sword if you're not careful. If their 'tastes' and their talents are too far apart from each other, then you're going to see a mix and match style throughout the game that can really stand out and make it harder for the player to be brought into the environment. This, IMO, is also why many games in the WIP board seem so 'FPS Creator-ish'. The developers mix and match several different assets by various artists, so that uniform style isn't always there. I'm not saying this is always the case, because it does work in some cases; but again, it's just something to look out for.

I'm not sure what Wehtam's decision is going to be, because apparently, there are a handful of artists interested in the position. Though, I suppose it would be a good time to mention beforehand (and possibly to make Wehtam's decision easier ) that I simply would not be able to make this game scrunched into the one level standard he requires. Tradition aside, The level concepts I've decided to work with will be too poly hungry to cram into one level. Taking into account full screen shaders, and both the enemy and friendly AI; even on a nice rig, one level would be pushing it.

I would rather spand the game across four or five levels, than have to wait another excruciating 15 minutes on the first loading screen to jump into the game. The unlockable mini-game I also have planned obviously would not be able to fit in the same level as the original map.

In any case, I think I should hold off on further development until Wehtam makes his decision. I was pretty anxious to get started on something sci-fi yesterday, that I already started on some of the 3D work for the first scene in the game; the troop carrier that carries you and your team to Titan; Saturn's only colonized moon, to ......

It would be a Honor to do it myself, but I havent done any projects before so I really don't wont to take over such a awesome sequel.

And if I could, I could script for you Kraven. As long as you are specific, that way I could make sure that what I do is correct and doesn't peeve you off.

Hi Guys,

I'm making a flying visit just to say I’m overwhelmed with the response and I’ll be sending out an email on Friday/Saturday, this will give me time to get a few notes together.

I would like to remind people that the story is long and this sequel would be another “chunk” of the whole picture, although my story requirements are few and far between they are set in place to ensure the continuation of the story. What I’m trying to say is, don't start clocking up hours on an awesome design just yet!

@Wehtam, I'm a little confused. Did you plan on writing the story and whoever gets the job has to make the game based around your idea? Or are you just saying that whoever does get to make the sequel can make their own story, but the events for your requirements need to be in place to carry on the original storyline?

@Shadowtroid, if I do manage to get the job, a little hand in the scripting department certainly couldn't hurt. Thanks for the offer. At this time, I'm still unsure whether or not Hockeykid will have the time (or will want to) participate in this project.

Hi Kravenwolf,

"whoever does get to make the sequel can make their own story, but the events for your requirements need to be in place to carry on the original storyline"

Is more accurate, there's no way I could dictate to someone the story to their own game, however as this is a sequel it needs to follow on a few things.

The candidate will be emailed by me and I will tell them the start and finish of the storyline for BL2, I will also tell them how it will follow onto BL3, whatever happends in between is up to them.
My intervention is purely to make the story follow, everything else is up to the artist.

Love the original BL, that is where I got my inspiration from to start segment creation.Personally I enjoyed the flat toned simplistic textures cramming as must detail into the 15 x 15 square area was a feat in it self.

I would love to get my grubby hands on this and expand on the exceptional level design that was pure Genius at the time.

I think this would be the perfect opportunity for me to expand on segment meshes.

Just been chatting to my neighbours teenage daughter and it turns out she's big into UFOs and aliens.

Which is cool because tomorrow she's getting abducted.
