IBOL's excellent 20-line rogue, in concert with David's graphic makeover, got me motivated to post an updated demo of my "Quickhack" dungeon delver.

It's still a long way from being finished, but it *is* playable. Here's a link to the download:

http://home.comcast.net/~rdersheimer/Quickhack_Demo.zip

or you can click on my sig to get the whole experience.

I'm still looking for help with the graphics - I'm no artist. In the meantime, I'm using a combination of placeholder graphics from World of Warcraft, and 3D models. Here's a nasty goblin...

I wanted to try it (downloaded from your homepage), but it crashes before anything is displayed with this:

Runtime Error 3002 - Could not load sound at line 1521

By the way, it's a nice read on your page I like how you handle the clicks and keys thing.
Keep up the good work!

Now the plot thickens, the fps decreases, and the awesomeness goes through the roof.

Still with the "could not load sound" errors? That seems to happen to some folks, but not with others.

I don't have a clue why, but I sure wish I did. I downloaded the demo to my desktop, and it runs fine.

Sorry it doesn't work for you.

Yeah, I don't get really. I think it happens mostly with media packed into the exe. Maybe some data gets corrupted when being downloaded/packed...
I'll re-download it soon.

Worked for me. Got to level 3 before I had to quit. My only issue with the game is that it's too easy to find a map, usually it dropped on the first enemy I killed. I'd say make maps something like a 5% drop instead of a 90% drop rate that I seemed to have been getting.

Yah, I made it easy for testing. You also don't need a key to open any of the locked doors or chests.

Those are playtest issues, and I'm almost ready to start advertising for playtesters and beta testers.

I haven't yet put in the rings and amulets. Another is what the player uses the "clues" for. I guess I should put a list of stuff in the original post.

Thanks for trying it though, I do appreciate the feedback!

Yah, just placeholders. No way can I do the artwork, so if you know anybody who can draw, send 'em this way!

That's pretty spiffy! I love Nethack .

I got to the second level and then went to look at my e-mail, at which time it threw:
"Image does not exist at line 2736"

And crashed two instances of Codesurge I had open .

Thank you!

Eventually I'll put all the images in a memblock file.

I don't have the time or inclination to figure out why some folks get missing sounds or images, and some folks don't. I'm glad this "feature", like many others, has a work-around.

Well, I've decided to use Smart Packer Professional for Quickhack. It should solve all the missing file problems completely.

Also, I've been using Enhanced Animations on my models. WOW! This is really helping a lot!

I've been working on a "front-end" for it, specific to my needs, that lets me load in the .fpe data from the models, and build my own set of animations.

Here's a screenshot of the front end...
