Hey guys, it's Monkey here, and as you can see, I was wondering, is there any way to make a FPSC shooter game involve strategy? Any tips or tricks you guys know?
Kinda a open question but... I don't want my game to have all shooting skill. I want some thinking in it too.

Yes, you can use physics to climb up to another level, or use scripts to get past doors, or use both physics and scripts to make a puzzle for the player to get past.

The game Portal by Valve is quite strategic in how you must plan ahead to complete the levels. You could make FPSC levels that required forward-thinking to be solved. Maybe by SpyDaniels suggestions or by having objects you need to shoot to move on.

Plystire created some really cool examples of puzzles akin to portal using Project Blue a while back. Armed with PB and all the wonderful script additions and it's excellent variable system I bet you could make a sweet puzzles shooter.

Ideas for this aren't too hard to come by.

1. Have a room or level with 5 creatures/objects. To open the door you have to kill the proper creature for one reason or another. Kill 2 wrong ones and the whole place collapses.

2. Set it up where every special enemy you kill in the room shouts a piece of a code. Using books and hints throughout the level, you must piece together the code before a bomb goes off.

I was thinking strategy more like Hitman strategy. Not like Portal strategy

But keep the ideas coming guys.

stealth is one thing, the challenge could be in the way you kill. every enemy must be killed within one second of the other to prevent alarm. this Idea would be best with working conveyor belts, or cranes, or timed explosives, or remote explosives. if you're seen, than you are shot. perhaps give the player a gun with limited ammo, or just a knife.

maybe make the challenge realism, get shot once and die. the challenge would be proper strategy in an environment where stealth is not an option.

You guys ever heard of Commandos Strike Force? It is a very strategic FPS game. Being able to control between three people in a single mission at will involves a lot of strategy. I'm not too sure if FPSC allows this, but I heard someone making a script where you can do such a thing. That was some time ago though...

Maybe use the faction system of v1.17 DAI to add strategy were your having to play the different factions off against eachother and keep them all balanced.

I was making a Hitman styled game, but changed to stealth.
