Open Source / GPL FPSC Game

Theoretically, would a project like this violate the terms of FPSC?

Theoretically, I think something like this would boost sales of FPSC (as a purchase of FPSC would be needed in order to participate in the project would be needed) and also boost interaction among FPSC users.

If you do not understand the GPL please refer to http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html

Adjustments may need to be made to game source files in order to comply with FPSC terms of use, but I think it is possible to do this legally.

Please, any and all comments on this are welcome! (which I am sure I will get here anyways lol)

I know many of us are busy with v117 and v118 beta, but please take the time to consider posting a quick thought on this.

This post has recived 20+ views and no responses, so I want to add a couple comments to this post.

If you are questioning rather or not game source files created by FPSC can be shared among others, PSD files created obvioulsly by PhotoShop can be legally shared among (and sold) by other photoshop users even though Photoshop is obviously not a GPL product.

This is of course given that .x files are not shared. (due to conflicting licenses for 3D models)

If you have any doubts of a software building a business model from the GPL please have a look at wordpress.org and the empire automatic has built using this license.

It might be worth contacting TGC and see if what you propose is acceptable.

You have to take into account all the robots and crawlers on the site they will view threads but not comment, also some users just view and never post about anything.

But on topic i think it is a good idea and can be done but with the need for a large amount of planning and cooperation from TGC to protect their media there is a big chance of files being ripped from the game source as its being developed freely and some artists may not be happy about that.
There will also be the fact that every single user will have to have all the media. Some artists will allow this distribution type where as others will make each member of the development buy the media themselves and this will put many people off i think. the reason they may do this is it only takes one person getting a couple of models free to develop this game with, they may distribute them outside the development area and then the artist has lost money and his models are now free to everyone that can find them on Google.

Well, if someone would be willing to create media or take existing media they have already created and change the license to GPL..

I actually, dont think there is anything that directly involves TGC aside from the default media, which some of it is obtainable with the Free version of FPSC anyhow.
