Ok first ok i'm not tring to make my own runescape or ORPG or MMORPG I have a question about how they did it if any of you know, in runescape they only use the x and y axis, yet they have hills, 3d objects, etc, but objects are placed on a 2d grid, how would you go about doing that? also wouldn't this make collision so much easier?

I want coke, not Pepsi!

You use the Y value as a way of sorting the items on the screen. Objects with a Y value that puts them near the top of the screen are drawn first, and objects with a Y value that puts them at the bottom of the screen are drawn last.

That way you can move 'up' the screen and walk behind an object.
