The shader shown on the front of the DBPro site is included with Upgrade 5 for DBPro. So you don't have to find one, you're given one

Personally though there is a much better water shader in the latest RenderMonkey (ATI) build, however their Export to .FX feature is dead as dead can be, so no go there.

Cheers,

Rich

RenderMonkey 1.0 Final exports .fx fine for me Rich... but exporting a shader is only a fraction of the needs for such things - you will still need some values going into them oftenly.

the shader is probably called water.fx and there are a few in the [dbpro]\compiler\effects directory

I found no water.fx in my DBP derectory.
In the compiler\effects derectory is only a bump.fx, cartoon.fx & rainbow.fx.

can anyone send me the files at [email protected] ?

Raven if you got time pls help Xanatus with this issue. There's probably like 10 people in db pro forums that know how to use those shaders well. I exported that water effect from Ati rendermonkey but so far he didn't get it to work, it only set object invisible so I'm guessing the .fx file is missing some parameters. He got all the files that are required for that reclections refractions water fx.

The "Dark Basic ProfessionalHelpexamplesbasic3dfx" directory contains 3 sample shader effects with their respective .fx files.

Except they don't actually work in the DX9 Effect Viewer and have a statement at the top of the exported FX files saying they'll need modification in order to even run. If you know how to modify their shaders in the first place to get them even running, there's no point using it because it means you're capable of creating them anyway! To mis-quote a great Jedi: "Shaders, for novices, are not".

Everyone else:

As for the water shader, strange.. I could have sworn it was included in U5. Never mind, I'll talk to Lee about releasing it, it must be DBDN only at the moment.

Cheers,

Rich

Yeah, the water shader is only in the DBDN pack I think.

...but I can't get it to work on plains anyhow

Mouse - a plain object doesn't have enough vertices for it to work. You need to use a plain created in a 3D package that is say 10x10 or 20x20 in size (i.e. lots of little plains stuck in a grid). Only then can it deform the object in the wave pattern as needed. I can email you a 3D object it works on if you like, just mail me.

Cheers,

Rich
