Hello all
!!NEW SCREENSHOTS ADDED DECMEBER 16th!![b]
[b]!!SEE NEXT PAGE!!

As you can see its going to be a hoverboarding game - So far I have made a track editor, which I have used to make what you can see so far, and the controls are done-including gravity, skidding, ground tilting etc. I've also got sliding collision to work well with the edges of the track.
I need to do lots of little things like a shadow for the hoverboard and a texture for the hoverboard, and then i'm going to start on the track properly, and improve the textures on it to. in the final game there will be opponents and obstacles too.
i'll repost when i've updated it some more!

Looks very nice, if not a tad dark

In the full version will there be more trackside scenery, etc.?

Yes of course
the track is just for testing purposes and is extreemly simple at the moment. as well as trackside objects and better/more textures, the track will have bumps, hairpins, chicanes, tunnels and very steep drops too.
I know it looks a bit dark - my monitor brightness was put down, but i can put it up too.

That won't affect screenshots - i've found that dbp's ambient light is a bit dark, try putting it up to 100

eeks tip-top-tip:
if you open the green texture file for the alien and colorize it
in paint shop pro (or another tool), you can change the aliens skin colour, so you can change the racer.

Screenies looks good, although the thing about matrix tracks
is that they tend to turn at right angles rather than hving rounded
bends

I know, but for my kind of track that would be ok.
I've made a texture for the board, added a shadow, and have now set about making the track properly - new screenies soon!

looking good! are you planning on changing the animation of the model to maybe a crouching pose? i just think it would look better than the dude standing bolt upright.

yes - i also hope to have animations of him leaning to the sides when he goes round a turn, and him crouching and straightning up again when he lands a jump.
am starting work on a tunnel now - should be fun

You know what would be cool? If you could do tricks like kickflip. You could change the names though like Mars-flip or something.

have u ever played uni-rally on the snes? it's a racing game with tricks, the more tricks you pull off the faster you go, could be useful if you where going in that direction

the game's looking good so far, you should reposition the alien in a kinda crouching pose, the way it stands upright looks a little bit unrealistic. Something like:

hi
been a while since i updated this post - but i've been working hard. the track is complete, opponents have been added and i've now got to add sliding collision data to the whole of the track (so far done about half). i've also been working on a few more trackside objects, trying to animate the model, and other bits and pieces. new screenshot below, any feed back welcome.

Looks Great! What are the physics like? If you've ever played Trickstyle something like that would be cool, but then you'd have to program the leaning using the limbs and it might take a bit of effort to get it just right.

I'm sure it'll be amazing whatever!

Can you do tricks.

I like tricks that are easy to land

I bought SSX 3 the other day and although its not a hover game is a simular thing isn't it. Slide/Race/Win.

OK so a tricky system like that is out of the Question. But how about something simular. Like press 'Z' and it will do a 900 method rodeo corkscrew revert out. Those games are always fun. Press a button do a nice trick . Ok for a game that relies on tricks that would be a bad Idea but for something like a racing game its brill. The last thing you want to do is be 1st try a trick with complex controls and become last. I hate that.

But Im prob just not a very good games at these. LoL. O can do THPS4 np but this SSX thing Im still not very good at I make to many enemys.

Ow wow. Thanks another Idea people hating/Loving you.

Ok Im going to stop now. The chances are you already have a plan and the last thing you need is someone like me ruining it but giving you wacky ideas LoL.

Btw is there going to be a demo?

thanks for the comments guys!

jrowe: the physics are pretty good i think - gravity, skidding/sliding when you turn, which makes it more tricky, - its easy to get the hang of though difficult to master

DBP vivi: i have not as yet added animations to the model, though i downloaded an animation program the other day which i'm trying to learn quickly - once i get the main animations ie - the crouching pose, leaning forward/backwards around turns etc, then if i have time, i'll try adding a few tricks too. i don't think they would be for points or anything, just fun little things to do

im working on 'road signs' at the mo, and about to begin turbo items, health restoration items and other things like that. and at the same time trying to finish the sliding collision which takes absolutely ages also am working on a menu system, and i'll post a screenshot of that in the next few days too.

not sure if a demo will be released, but if one would be released, it would be at least next month.

thanks again,

Robin

ok, i've added sliding collision to the whole track, and the opponents are almost finished - just adding a bit of randomness to their movement to make it more realistic.
I've also started on some of the obstacles - i've got some bouncy red balls which bounce around the track, and decrease your health if they hit you. i've still got lots of obstacles/bonuses to add though.
My brother's making the music for the game - so far i've got menu music and one in-game song.
I'll post some new screenshots in a few days time

turbo squares ( the texture scrolls ), but I might change the colour of the texture, what do you think?
NEW SCREENSHOTS BELOW
i'll probably replace the alien with a picture of the alien on a hoverboard, but the basic design is there. if you can see how it looks as if the alien is cut out then i'll fix it - it doesn't look like that in photoshop, but when i saved it as a gif then it kind of messed it up a bit

let me know what you think

I can tell the alein thing is pasted, the black for it is darker.
It also lacks stars in the sky

thanks for the comments
I have replaced the menu screen (above) with a new one, please let me know what you think. I will render a picture of the alien on the board, and put that in too, but haven't got around to it yet.
I have changed the turbo things with a new texture (see below) which i think looks much better. I know there aren't any stars in yet, but I will eventually add a skybox with stars, planets etc on.
the alien still isn't animated unfortunately, as i don't really have a clue how to - i've just set the alien to one of the frames in the animation which makes him look kind of like he's on a hoverboard. i've got someone who might be able to hep out with animations though...

nice... looking good! only critisism is the hoverbike flame, is it part of the hover board? you will have to disable light and ambience to make it glow 'cus it looks kinda dull at the mo.

yes, the flame is a limb attached onto the hoverboard - it looks a bit dull in the above screenshot, but i think thats because its on top of the dark part of the track. when the flame is on the plain metal part of the track, then it looks much brighter. i'll try disabling light/ambience too though, to see if it looks better
thanks for the comments - i've just redone the textures for most of the objects, added 'health' points (which i really like) and made the starting grid a lot nicer. I'll get some new screenshots up tommorow.
