I need it to be dark and scary for a horror game. I know you can change the lighting with the < and > keys, so i adjusted it to where i needed it. It stayed that way every time i tested it, but when i compiled a demo to upload, it was bright and un-scary. and you could still use < and > to adjust brightness. There must be a way to permanently turn down the brightness. I really need it dark.

Go to file > build game > level settings > global script and you can adjust the ambience values from there from the map editor. If you already built your game, go to your game's files, and in the languagebank\english\gamebank\mygame directory, open the setuplevel file, and the ambience values can be found on this line;

Set the ambience values via script and then apply the script to a trigger zone in your level.

Do you mean that you can't make the ambiance un-changeable in-game?

Yes you can, it sometimes is a little buggy and doesn't change it for some reason(at least for me). But it works eventually.
Oh sorry in game? As in the user changing it? Nope, not yet, maybe theres a mod for it.
