You know in most games when a boat is traveling, it warps the water under it depending on the speed? Can someone show me an example of how to do this with a cube and a matrix?
thanks!

There are loads of great examples of ways to do this, just search the forums using the terms "waves" or "water", I just found several including a thread you started...

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=173458&b=1

You may need to edit and adapt the code posted as I find no matter what anyone posts here you will almost always have to do some editing to get the effect you are after.

I may have said this before once or twice but please try having a go before asking for help. I personally see a number of posts by you every week where you haven't even tried to get a solution before posting a request for code. This could have been added to the end of your other thread mentioned above anyway.

Mugen, I have to agree. Learn to stand on your own 2 feet - you can't expect people to mollycoddle you on all these projects. Your looking for too much at once, and when people look at a thread, thinking 'what does he want now', well they are less inclined to offer in-depth help.

Decide on a project you can actually do, and learn to construct a request for help properly.

Seriously, no new threads for 2 weeks or I'll noob slap you.

Hey. Unless the ADMIN says otherwise, you can't legally stop anyone from posting UNLESS they broke the rules. Which I have not. So unless the ADMIN says I should stop posting for 2 weeks, I'm going to continue posting and learning as much as I can. Afterall, that's what the forums are for. LEARNING.

I agree you aren't breaking any rules by posting but you are posting a heck of a lot of times when a little thought might suffice. Van B is a moderator and can Noob slap anyone he wants any time he wants and admin will most likely back him up (as will over half the community [conservatively]).

I hope you take this as a learning experience and don't try to take it out on Van B who is well respected here as a moderator.

Well, you know best - although maybe the other mods and dare I say it, ADMIN will agree that after you've been told several times about your posting habits, you still have not listened.

This thread is a doubler, probably because people got sick of helping you in the other umpteen threads.

The admin, whoever you think that is, awaits your email. You've been slapped for 13 days. Learn to appreciate the people who try to help you, I've yet to see you do that in any of your threads.

For a start, Van B is a moderator, so he can legally stop you from posting for as long as he wants (read the AUP).

Secondly, you are not learning, you are simply copying what other people have done without making the effort to understand it and learn from it.

If you want to learn to program, you must learn these steps:
1) work out exactly what you want to acheive
2) turn this into a problem
3) divide this problem into smaller sub-problems until all of the sub-problems are solvable
4) code the solutions to each of the sub-problems
5) link all the solutions together to solve the whole problem

At the moment you are getting to step 2, thinking "nobody has told me exactly how to solve this particular problem before, so I'll ask"

That does not help at all, since as soon as you want to change what you want to acheive you have to ask again.

If you are stuck on step 3 then you should ask for help on how to do step 3, not how to solve the whole problem. If you simply can't be bothered to put the effort in to learn how to do step 3, then go away

edit:
Wow, 3 posts since I started writing

You know, in the AUP, it says "We do not tolerate posts made for the purpose of putting down another forum member, group of members, religion, our company, our staff or any of our moderators, past or present." I never put you down, any members down, any religions down, your company down, or your staff down. But you, VanB, put ME down.

No one has "put you down"

VanB is just having to raise his voice a little because you don't seemingly listen when people give you advice.

Well then I should be banned immediately. Although I'm not sure when I put you down, people are trying to offer you some advice, and all you ask for is a shovel.

In case my point wasn't clear I meant the bit that says "You agree that moderators shall, at their discretion, determine what constitutes a violation of these terms, along with generally accepted netiquette standards, and can take action against those who voilate these rules."

...but as Ben Franklin said "He that won't be counseled can't be helped."

Agreed again, you didn't put anyone down. What you have done for quite some time now is not make the effort to try to find a solution to a problem before asking for help.

Several people have commented on this to you and you have not listened. When Van B gave you a friendly(ish) warning you didn't respect it. THAT is why you got slapped, disrespecting a MOD.

EDIT: I'm out. I've tried to help, now I give up. I already got your reply Mugen and I realise now that you are too upset/unwilling to accept you are capable of being even slightly wrong.

Mugen,

This place is not somewhere where people judge others by their forum names, avatars, WIP posts, etc. You start out here as an equal in this community. If you end up in the situation where everyone is getting frustrated with you, then it's got nothing to do with prejudice, it's because you've done something wrong, and you must accept that. Now, you're going to tell me you've done nothing wrong (AUP), but you are making the forums less fun to browse, because every second thread is just another question by you which you have clearly put absolutely no effort into solving, and expect everyone to run around helping you. How do you expect they know the answers? If they do, it certainly wasn't from constantly asking questions! It was from working it out themselves!

@Mugen:
There is a difference between braking the rules and making yourself unpopulary. Just try to deal with the suggestions others made to you in this thread... You seem so frightened of being banned, that you don´t even care that people just made helpfull suggestions. You didn´t even thank baxslash for his recent effort answering your question.

Despite the fact I said I was out and despite the fact I've gotten very frustrated here I am STILL trying to help you as we speak on another thread (the 3D healthbar code nearly ready for you). I don't always expect thanks but I would like people to realise we are helpful on these forums and that nobody is giving you a hard time unnecessarily.

Now have a drink on me and lets all chalk this up to experience.

Lots of people have helped you by doing all your work for you, but your attitude is sometimes a little abrasive, plus you insist on constructing
a large portion
of
your threads
like
this
for no
real reason.

That and you insist on double or triple posting just to say things like "anyone going to help" or "I still need this" and when people do help you, you change what it is you want and keep asking for the same things. (Usually "it's still lagging")

Just take the advice, learn from it, and move on. If lots of people are telling you the same thing to which you disagree, maybe it's you who are wrong? No-one's said you put people down, but your posting habits are a little troll like.
