I've just been browsing the bug forum, and noticed there are a fair few posts pertaining to the IDE which comes with DBP.
Now, this post is not intended to sound critical of TGC, or flamebait or whatever, this is an honest question.

Surely, as the IDE's author is no longer availble, TGC need to either contract someone to support the IDE, contract someone to make a new IDE, or not claim that DBP comes with an IDE?

I just think that it could be considered slightly deceptive to claim that DBPro comes with an IDE, but fail to point out that it's not going to be updated.

Can I ask you a Question?
What is it?
It's an interrogative form of sentence, used to test knowledge. But that's not important right now.

I think when you buy a product it is a bonus if it is updated - particulaly at no additional cost (check out Windows updates!).

I see you point though, but I would imagine that TGC are already on the case to identify a new IDE. Let's be honest - TGC are one of the few companies that take interest in their users

We have a new IDE built in-house that is for internal use only at the moment and will stay that way for a while until it's ready for a release candidate. However there are many other people working on IDEs too, so I firmly believe we'll see something before the end of the year to replace what we have now (which in all credit to Guys, aside from a few bugs, does actually work bloody well).

Cheers,

Rich

I hope my initial comments didn't sound derisive of the current IDE. It is good.... very good. But it just struck me as odd that it would remain in its current state forever ...

cheers for the info

Just to clarify a point, TGC do not currently have the editor's source code as far as I know, therefore they are not in a position to fix bugs in it.

Rob - correct. Even if we did have the source, none of us fancy getting dirty with Delphi anyway

There comes a point in a projects life when it's just easier to start again than try and re-code.

Cheers,

Rich

looks like this could be quite interesting...
Will it have a built in media browser, cos that would be a great addition to it?

@DarkRider

Function folding is excellent, but the help support system doesn't seem to work (always Page Not Found)

DarkRider: Nice, looks just like VS.NET and like Rob said, the folding is especially great. May I ask what you programmed it in? I'm guessing a .NET language simply because you've gone for that style.

Help seems to work for me though. You might also considering having a cancel option when quitting the program and it prompts to save. Also, you need to comment out ` lines as well (currently it just does rem). That's about it though, nice.

Fash_FD, Media browser is in the pipeline, and you should see it in the next beta. Any filetype suggestions, or just all of them

Rob K, yeah, uses a hardcoded path name because I was so excited that it worked Fixed.

Exeat, VB.Net 2003. As far as I know the ` remming works. It also does `_ and `__ for different remark levels. I'll look into it.

Thanks for the comments.

there was 1 feature that would be v useful for those of us
who dont write neat code.
What u sohould do is add a function where the program puts all
variable declarations at the top of the program, and whenever you write a variable in a program, it automatically asks if you want to
declare it.

Option Explicit!

Wonderful invention. Microsoft sometimes do something right, and that command is one such time.

I just wish some programmers could learn to have proper variable names now, too. Not fghj# or kdjsl% or something like that.

Tried it on a win 2 k machine, and I got an error saying that it can't find mscoree.dll, and then it exited. I've got the MS .NET "plugin" from their windows update site installed.

eek, the editor supports plugins...so feel free.

Microman, rerun the installer and copy and paste the url it gives you for the .net framework. This will get you the latest version.

After installing the .net per the popup on the installation message, I installed the editor.
The program loads then a message appears that it cannot find the "dbp_config.dll" and defaults to the standard editor. I checked and "dbp_config.dll" is in the editor sub directory.

My path to DBP is "Crogram FilesDark Basic SoftwareDark Basic Professional"

Any suggestions?

I mean which language within that? VC++, C#, VB?

Yeah, .NET now has option explicit as a setting now so you don't have to type it in everytime, just enable it or disable it.

Copy dbp_config.dll from the current editor's directory into the newly created one.

lol, Exeat. There are no languages within VB.Net, when I say VB.Net I mean VB.Net and not C#.Net or C++.Net

Codger, I have emailed you, but TCA has it sorted.

Thanks

Sorry, I read it as VS.Net lol. Wasn't looking clearly. Is the code box a RTF Box? That's really amazing what you've done it. I could only manage to get line numbers, had no clue how to do function folding.

It functions pretty well now, however it IS slow on my system. Have you run it on something other than an XP box? If you haven't perhaps it would be prudent to do so and see if it needs to be tweaked a bit.

As I said above, I'm running on a win2k with the .NET framework. I've got a P3-650 MHz with 512 MB RAM.

"I think when you buy a product it is a bonus if it is updated - particulaly at no additional cost (check out Windows updates!)."

Not really, because when you buy a product, you are paying for it too work 100%.
As this is near-impossible with computer producters, you diserve to get free updates to fix any problems.
