Hey guys, To the people here using gimp, is there a way to have a alpha channal in the normal map using gimp?

Edit: looked at the gimp faq and got this

How do I save an image with an alpha channel?

Before saving the image, select "Layers->Flatten Image". It would be more intuitive if it was called something like "Remove Alpha"...but that's generally not its primary function. It just happens to remove alpha.

it says it removes the alpha, which i dont want, or am i reading it wrong?

Right-click on the normal map layer and select add alpha channel. Add an alpha channel to any other layers as well (ie, the spec map). Save in .dds format.

No problem. I actually just got around to tinkering with bond1's new shaders a few days ago, so it's been a good experience for me to once again get accustomed to some of GIMP'S other features.

Anyway, I just found out a few moments ago that you're actually going to want to use a layer mask on your normal map layer to hold the alpha channel. The first way that I described (without using the layer mask) is actually going to double your file size to get the same result (because the first way uses two layers, each with an alpha channel)
