Is it possible to make a game in FPSC and change it to a different engine...say Unreal Engine?

It just feels a little weird to me..thats all.

Not really. I can't think of a way without spending 10+ years modding FPSC, importing some of it into Dark GDK, re-coding other parts and writing an emulator within UDK itself to only end up with horrid quality all around the board!

You could have built a UDK game faster and better at that rate!

I found a post from awhile back (2006 or something) some guy had found a way to take the models/media and use it in unreal but other than that I don't think you could simply make a game then port it over, and besides FPSC uses low poly models/media Unreal engine would be overkill but you wouldn't have to worry about your fps and would be able to have a lot bigger area to play with. I've also moved to UDK and atempted to port some stuff over and I've found your better off just using new models/media considering the quality that's supported there.

That may have been me, I made a tutorial in January on how to get FPSC media into UDK...

Unreal is better, FPSC teaches yo the basics, but Unreal has so much more freedom over performance and rendering capability, shaders, etc, etc...

yeah, actually it was you coffee! hahaha and I agree completly, it's a bit of a struggle for me starting out, but after seeing what it can do it's well worth it, I love FPSC and will most likely continue to use it to develope my idea's on a speed build type thing, but as for my actual work, it will be done with the UDK.

We're not discussing UDk vs FPSC, just how to move from FPSC to UDK...

They are both two completely different things;

FPSC is a framework essentially for developing FPS games in the most simple of ways.. All the game dynamics are handled for you...

UDK is a game engine where the game logic is up to you to provide (unless you use a template, such as the fps game provided with the package).

FPSC is for beginners in game development, UDK is more for seasoned developers, and those with a very developed knowledge in Object Orientated Code development.

Transferring from FPSC to UDK?

You would have to first develop a layer over UDK that emulates FPSC's functionality, and then build upon that framework. It won't be as simple as going from say DarkBasic Pro to Blitz Basic 3D, since the two development mediums are extremely different.

Mikey

There is no real commotion. It was a good question, the only thing you could do is learn UDK, and try recreating it.

I downloaded UDK and am currently learning how to use it. It is amazing what you can do with it. However, am I allowed to use guns from FPSC..say the G36C and use it in a game I make in UDK? All the guns are futuristic and premade...I need modern style guns and characters xD

I am not sure legally where the guns stand cause I did purchase them and a Build Game license from the creator store.

You're allowed to use Errant's guns in whatever you want - he said so himself on another thread, so long as you got them legally...

Guns aren't hard coded which allows much more freedom, but makes it harder to get one working. You'll need to look up tutorials on editing an existing script into one you can use for Errant's weapons, if and when you do get to that stage - look up GeoDav, he's got great tutorials...

I disagree, as far as scripting, you're right. But in the editor, it's essentially FPSC with more functions and features.

No problem, I know how hard it is to start out learning how to get stuff working in UDK from FPSC. So I'm working to make it as painless as possible...
