The debate between FPSx9 and FPSx10 users is mute, or eventually will be. Microsoft will be the downfall of FPSx9. They have already started with Vista, Windows7, DirectX10 and X11.

The question is, how long will some computer owners hang on to an old (XP) operating system that has no chance of competing with any of the newer ones available?

For you programmers and game developers who hope to sell a game that's taken you years to bring to market. Who is going to buy your game? Who is going to spend money on a piece of softway that will not run on their Vista, Windows7 or maybe Windows8 machines.

There is one question remaining. Why is Lee Bammer and TGC working so hard to get a dead horse pumped up enough to run in the Kentucky Derby? You can bet your bottom dollar (quid, euro) that it has something to do with making more money for TGC.

You may notice that I have said little about FPSx10. I own both FPSx9 and FPSx10 and use both to play with.

My system is a 2.8 quadcore with 16gig mem and dual envidia 9800GTs loaded with DirectX 9.0c, 10.1 and 11. Operating system is VistaHome 64.

FPS Creator X9 runs perfectly fine for me on 32bit Windows 7 Ultimate. X9 also runs on Vista so we aren't working on software that only runs on XP.

You cannot run DX 11 on a 9800GT. It just isn't possible.

Too much to do with too little time.

I'm running VISTA which I went to from Windows 2000 Professional, but I have an unopened copy of XP, just in case.

It is hard to get a new PC with XP but I think Dell still will allow for it. However, I think there is some newer hardware that will not work with XP. I vowed I was going to use XP til I die as well but I got a new desktop and in order to get the hardware I wanted (processor and video card). So, I got Windows 7.

For the first few months it was working flawlessly, but then I started getting this popup window saying that I do not have genuine windows. Well, I was sure that Dell would have not given me a bogus OS. Besides it was working for several months anyway. I contacted MS and we worked through several things until it came down to the point where I will have to re-install. I had never had to re-install (ever) XP. I will probably put up with the pop-up window as it is not very often. Despite the claims that I will not be able to update the OS or use some features, everything is still being updated and I can use all the features. So there MS. I have a feeling it was a virus. I had never gotten a virus using XP either. So, Windows 7, despite all their programming and past experiences still has vulnerabilities because wherever they store the # got changed and it somehow disabled the ability to change it through the backdoor.

So, Thanks for listening.

Other than being called a "moron", comments haven't surprised me in the least.

When I bought my new system, the first thing I was going to do was get rid of Vista and reload with XP. That was until my freindly computer guru explained the facts of life. XP will only address 4 or 5 gigs of memory (or was it 8gig). I didn't spend the kind of money it took to buy my new system so that I could get rid of half my installed RAM

I felt the same way when windows 98 was superceded by 2000 and then XP.

For you 'until the day I die' folks...wanna bet!

Vent and Flatlander have seen and understood the hand writing on the wall.

Actually XP has nothing to do with how much ram it can read,it depends on the version. If you have 32 bit version the max ram amount displayed will be 3,5gb. If you use XP 64 bit or any other OS that is 64 bit it will show all the ram you got.

Oh,FPSC X9 works on any operating system from XP to 7.

I run FPSC on window 7 x64...never have I had any problems like crashes or anything, most of my problems come from user created content to say the least...which sucks because some of the programs these guys come up with are really nice and I'd like to be able to use them to!...so dev's that are currently working on side projects...keep us other system users in mind please

Its amazing how stupid some of you really are you know. It really saddens me to think you all want to keep using XP an OS that will be unsupported very soon and is a great big 9 yes 9 years out of date. Something which in a few years will not be able to run any new games at all due to it not having support for any DirectX above 9.0c. It is time to wake up and smell what you are shovelling TGC are 100% developing a product on the way out. Fabricating excuses about Vista/ Win 7 or Direct X10 just shows the lack of intelligence of yourself. You can't build a good argument against anything if you have never experienced both versions.

Now whether it is X10 on the way in or X11 that is a debatable, but the simple fact is X9 is out and XP is too deal with it.

That is the way the industry is beginning to go all accept TGC, which once again are on a money making adventure and not doing what is actually worth while in the long run they only see what makes them a few quid now. They can't see past the low X10 sales now, maybe its because not many people have PC's that can run X10 maybe if they started developing X10 or X11 they would get people moving over in favour of with new amazing things it can do. It seems all TGC does is go backwards. At this rate next year we will be seeing FPSC X8 coming to Windows 2000. I'm sure some of you are still running that even 10 years after its release.

My rant is over please don't come back with even more rubbish you really do sound stupid arguing with that plain facts.

I don't have the money on hand at this time to buy a new system, so I would call my self poor over stupid, and even then, Im not poor. But thanks.

also, all support for XP will be cut in 2014.

I can understand money issues many have them i do too luckily i got my PC before i ran out i needed it as my old one caught fire but... I'm saying defending XP and Direct X9 just because you are sour about it is a stupid way to create an argument.

Nearly all of you in this thread have never used Windows 7 maybe even Windows Vista (which was buggy i admit). And for sure Direct X10+ so you cannot in any way argue that it is a dead product or not better than X9 because you don't know.

If anyone using FPSC X9 can prove that they are using X10 or above then feel free to moan all you like its your right to do so, freedom of speech and what not. But for the rest of you shut up before you make yourselves look even more stupid.

And yes all XP support ends in 2014 but its started being phased out already 2014 is when they stop giving out crucial updates. Much much sooner than that the normal updates will stop followed by security patches. They don't just stop it one day it gets slowly cut down.

you miss the point...vista was flop

technology will advance but if people are not gonna buy it then that is a useless technology

simply every house has pc and every pc can run internet and ms office(so why upgrade.... better to buy x360)
..
until some major technology knock the door people are happy with xp

You must have missed that bit.

And XBOX 360 is just a cut down PC total waste of money in my eyes. But that's not the point.

Spy Daniel that joke may have worked better if your sig did not call you out

What a strange thing to say considering it was the 360 (and xbox 1 before) that helped push MS development into DX and all but created the "Games for Windows" vista only games of the time.

Anyway this is yet another silly "I'm right and the majority of the board are wrong, but I have a long ladder, so may as well dig a deep hole" thread and will go nowhere.

p.s. I still use XP, got two Dells with Vista on them and always return to XP and really can't be doing with all this upgrade or die theory

I have a PC with XP , a laptop with Vista and another laptop with Windows 7.I could care less about support stoping in X year,or FPSC x9 not being relevant...It's a hobby tool for most of us.

...Like I said...Plus x9 games run on any windows.Personally checked that one. While some other engines, like Leadwerks with far better graphical capabilities fail to run on my Vista laptop, but work fine on XP.Shame really...

A little thing I'd like to mention.FPS Creator was the reason I started 3d Modelling more seriously and I'm actually thankfull that this software exists.

P.S - When I read downfall , 'Der Untergang' popped up into my head.Great movie none the less! lol...

It's amazing how immature some of us are. There really is no need to attack people personally for their opinions. I've been running Windows 7 since the Beta came out and have no issues with FPSC. It's my understanding that FPSC also works well with Vista. While there will always be exceptions, it's been my experience (around 50 systems sold and supported since I started building with W7) that W7 is quite stable and backward compatible. I've never seen or heard about a problem like FLATLANDER described. I would blame it on DELL.

I would guess the main reason TGC continues to build on FPSC is the fact that it's still selling, and that means income. Since I'm not independently wealthy, it's the same reason I continue to "beat my dead horse" of a business.

According to 'ComputerWorld':

Quote: " XP is the most widely used operating system on the planet, and its long-delayed successor, Windows Vista, is not proving to be universally popular."

Why not cater to the people who use the most popular operating system 'on the planet'?

TGC is a business that provides a product marketed to as many people as possible.

Isn't that what any business does?

Well it's clear then, FPSC should drop XP and move onto iOS
