Newcomers DBPro Corner / need help making roads and buildings with multiple textures

Ooookay, hopefully this will be my last post for help.
Sorry if this is long BTW.

I have my terrain, however this is not a terrain made from a heightmap and an texture image, its a .x model shaped into my worlds terrain.
On my 'terrain', I have some roads and buildings, as well as the occasional mountain. The roads and buildings are all on the same x file as the terrain itself, meaning once I load the single file, its all there. I have assigned the buildings and roads diferent textures. I exported the file to a .x, then took the x file and the other files it gave me (.stf files) for the textures, and put them all in my project's directory. When I load the x file into my game however, its just white and black, my textures arent on the model. Any idea what im doing wrong? Do i need to load the stf files into my game or something?

If it matters to anyone, im using 3D World Studio.

You can't use the textures (.stf files) that come with 3DWS for exported models as nothing except 3DWS can read them.

Use different textures, (Theres some included in the DBP media folders, or google for some, or just draw some in Paint), and your model should work perfectly

Why is it these programs don't use textures that can be used in other software? I have tried a few terrian type programs and they nearly all let you paint the world, then oops you can't actually use those textures in anything else! What is the problem with saving the textures as normal image files that can be used in other apps! It is a major hassle when trying to create media for your games. I think that world building app makers should realize most people aren't making landscapes just for taking pics or animations within that package!
If someone writes a crisis quality editor for DB, that will be a good day lol.

@ =PRoF=: Thank you very much, I think i have it now, though you'd think you should be able to actually use the textures they give you.

Right now i only have one problem left, the terrain itself only has one texture. Is it possible to add rock/dirt on cliffs, sand for beaches etc.?

I'm fairly sure you can have different layers with 3DWS terrains, but I must admit I'm not 100 percent sure as to how it all works.

Yeah i was looking at that earlier and thought maybe thats what it was for, but im wondering if thats going to take up a heck of alot more time to load, having 3-4 layers on my map.

I doubt muchly a couple of extra layers on a terrain would greatly affect loading times.

Although the best thing to do is to give it a try? let us know how you get on
