Try to design your level with a few more things that block the players view from seeing the entire level. That way the engine can cull all the stuff the player cannot see and reduce the polygons on screen.

Things like high walls, buildings, winding streets etc can all help.

I bought this book on Amazon. After reading it I got my framerate, even on outdoor levels to never drop below 30. And that is with multiple enemies, explosions, water shaders, and decals all on screen at the same time. It's not always a matter of using less and less entities, it's more using "smarter" entities.

Here are a couple of tricks I pulled to get a bit more framerate from "he is coming..".

# - Surround the entire town with invisible segments, this way FPSC thinks the game is taking place inside a room and culls.

# - Only have enemies spawn at the last minute, for example just before the player turns a corner or opens a door. Don't have the enemies all appear at the start of the game, just spawn them when needed.

# - Try to have it so enemies have to be killed when spawned near you, this way you won't have enemies wandering all over the map slowing things down.

# - Make everything static, chairs, balls, barrels, boxes... unless absolutely needed to be dynamic. It's great to be able to move chairs and barrels about but the more dynamic objects you have the more lag you'll get.

Hope this help.

Nickydude,

When you use an invisible segment, are you talking about just walls, or floors and ceilings as well?

Also you would use a "pure" black texture to make the segment invisible right?
