Have been using an old version quite a while, it was a very long on and off relationship between me and this program for many years, but currently i got some great idea to be made, and i also realized how many possibilities have opened for Dark Basic since i've last been here...

So just for a quick taste i got down the FREE download here of DBPro, but it won't compile. On the setup example video it is "Hello World"-ing immediately, but i can't do even that.

I upgraded to the latest version, doesn't work either.

Finally i swallowed a big one, and updated my old version with the latest upgrade, saying 'maybe'... now my old, god knows where gotten (possibly a pirate setup, who knows it was like 8 years ago, sorry i'm not saying it was right to do...) version IS ALSO, not working.

Same with all three situations, the editor won't pass the compiling stage. Gives error: "Failed to 'LoadDBA'Failed to 'LoadDBA'" ( <- Not an error of me, it is there twice in the editor!)

I can't do anything now, this all eats up my spirit slowly, and i'm not buying DBPro just to get the same again.

Please give me suggestions what could be wrong.

Luckly you wont have to buy DBPro any longer. It's been made available for FREE, for commercial (I think) and free use.

I think he knows .

I only found one post referencing the "Failed to 'LoadDBA'" error, which only had one response saying to update his DX. I doubt that's it. What OS are you using? I'm guessing if you have Vista or 7 the overly-restrictive security features might be stopping DB from reading or writing the files it needs to.

XP doesn't have restrictions i might tweak somewhere?

I was getting that error for a while some time back but can't recall the cause.

I wonder if it's installed correctly. What versions of the editor and of DBPro itself are shown from the Help menu?

It's possible your editor settings are corrupt in some way. Could you post your dba and dbpro files for a simple "Hello world" project? We can then test those to see if there's a clue in the project file.

In the meantime could you try unzipping the attached project to a folder in your Dark Basic Professional/Projects folder and see if that works?

I installed it to a different directory other than the one it would automatically... but this was no problem with earlier versions... anyway i'm gonna give it a try to leave in the factory data.

Thank you for compositing that little pack, tried it, but i already have checked out all the demos if any of it would work but no they didn't.

It could really be just some kind of a bad internal link to some of dark basic's working files i guess (can't be the compiler itself, because i checked and it is adjusted well), but that stupid error line doesn't say much, unless you wrote the editor/DBPro... maybe any of the moderators could indicate this problem to Lee Bamber that what the 'H' a double 'Failed to LoadDBA' appearing down there means?

When you install an upgrade you need to make sure that it installs to the same directory. If you changed the directory it might install the update in the wrong place - happens to me on one of my machines when I forget I did something like that. In other words it might be worth re-installing U7.5 and make sure it goes in the right folder.

Other than that I don't know what to suggest.

Anyway, i spotted that my installation still thinks it's version 5.7!... i've done everything, but it just won't change to a higher value no matter if it is the FREE downloadable DBP or its latest update, so i guess i don't have much choice other than a complete re-installation of my system.

That happens to me on the machine I'm using now. At some point I had the bright idea of installing a second copy of DBPro in a different directory. Ever since then the upgrade installer tries to install to that directory. All I have to do (when I remember ) is change the folder name to the one I want. Here's the relevant step on this machine - I always have to delete the string " DGS" from the install location. What do you see when you upgrade, and what directory do you use for DBPro?



Sounds like something similar is happening to you. The only other possibility is that you haven't actually run the installer itself. Sounds daft now but at one point I thought I'd installed an update but in fact had only unzipped the installer. (In other words never try anything important after midnight. )

If you have successfully run the upgrade installer you should see the appropriate upgrade txt file in your DBPro folder as in my example below:



A full uninstall/reinstall might be the answer though.
