hi,

i've spent most of today downloading the realgametools forum using a offline browser program. i've allowed the program to archive everyone's signature image and avatar. plus any attachments are saved too. i also archived the dbpro online reference (http://www.realgametools.net/glossary/) i've created a iso image for it and it's 521mb.

the key thing is i need to see what people think of me archiving it. i see this archive as a valueable tool for any db programmer.

the thing is that will probably stop it being released is copyright and people refusing to let their source/demos/threads be released.

i'm posting this on both the forums to drum up attention. i hope the mods/admins can respond.

i dont like to see this truely massive archive of darkbasic info to just disappear.

i would be grateful if you can keep your views short and sweet and not turn this into a flame war.

edit - p.s. if people agree with it, it might be released as a "free" cd meaning you only pay for shipping and you get a physical cd to remember the great times on rgt

thank you

would suggest getting a few guys together and going through the posts ... shifting through the 90% crap of who's db prog is better than who's blitz prog and just end up with some real helpful information posts and such.

But its up to Lags opinion really if he should remove all the anti-Said person material, casue there sure is alot of it in the off topic section against said person.

i've asked danny on the other forum to see what his views are. since getting hold of guys is a difficilt thing.

for the moment it would be best if it stays on my hdd. until i know when i can release it.

I think anything non helpful, funny or interesting should be removed. Like Raven said 90% of it's gonna be "I make a shere on a matrix" stuff. Using the DBP fourm as example, nearly all of the team request can go, minus a few amussing flames against those who had it coming. The General Talk Board is a case-by-case issue. There is alot of stuff that is completely useless, a nuber of flames, and a few interesting points that should be saved for posterity.

Oh, and under no sercumstrances should the "Gimme da Codez" post not be included, it is both a funny and important bit of history to this Forum.

i think the general forum should keep it's posts intact. there's a lot of non db related info there. if there's anything that needs editing only the final month can be done otherwise it'll take a lot of time to sift through it.

i agree that the team requests should go, it'll probably be all "join my team and make some money!!!!" threads. i dont even wanna bother going through all that.

i'll probably include that gimme da codes thread seperate since there probably was no attachment of it.

the attachments folder has, various tutorials ranging from dbc and dbpro, example code, game engine codes, pictures of various projects made by people. thats without going into too much detail about the threads. i think there's a tutorial from simple about modeling and placing a image on it.

there would be no point archiving the special admin forums since that will probably stir up more trouble than it's worth.

I think that'd be quite interesting. I'm all for it.

I agree, admin forums and team requests would likely have nothing of value in them.

I wouldn't mind if the general discussion forum was gone too... there prolly isn't too much of value there... no doubt it would hold nostalgic value to many however .

Be interesting to see where this goes.

Good luck laggy
