You could have your movement speeds smooth out, might be enough just to use CURVEVALUE, as that means from a stand still, your character will ramp their speed up to normal, but it could take a second, you'd fine tune the speed changes with that last parameter in CURVEVALUE.
I find that this makes the characters much more responsive - especially if your using an analogue controller. An XBox 360 controller for instance along with CURVEVALUE will make for some really smooth and responsive movement, and there's practically no code to it - you can work out the speed with 1 line of code.
