I have read a lot of opinions on the merits of X10 vs X9 vs FPSC etc. While there seem to be strong feelings for one system or the other I still don't fully understand how the X series (10 or 9) fits in or compliments the FPSC product. In other word why did Game Creators create both FPSC and the X series?

I already own FPSC and its pretty cool. I am considering buying X10 (I believe you also get access to x9) becuase the graphics seem to be more optimized for my system (Windows 7 professional 64) and my video card apparently can handle it. If the graphics are better and it has water I don't see the downside (other than spending $70) of owning both FRSC and X10. Am I missing something here?

Oh come on. You only started this thread to start another firefight. Seriously, just read each products respective pages, and read all the other threads which have turned into debates and eventually been tagged as flamebait and eventually locked.

Any threads like this should be locked on sight by mods - what's going to happen is inevitable.

I'd advise people not to post here, as a another flamewar will happen and more mod slaps will be given out.

I agree with Marc Steene. Please don't argue, people... or simply don't post. We have loads of threads where all your questions will be answered @JonnieR: Please use the search function. It can be found on the bottom left of each forum page.

Thanks and no offense

They are both good products, each one has it's strengths and weaknesses. It's the same analogy of comparing Microsoft Office vs Open Office. From what I recall from someone telling my wife and I when we looked at both, the x10 was designed more so for Windows Vista at the time. Although i know that x9 does run on XP/Vista/Win7, I do know that x10 will not run on XP. I too am not too sure what the purpose of the two were designed for. I suppose I should just "read each products respective pages...", but then again that's what forums were designed for.

You talk to x9 users, they will list the pros of x9. You talk to the x10 users and they will list the pros of x10. Unfortunately you will also find the endless debating over which is better, hence the "well thought-out" posts of the previous posters before myself.

The best thing I could recommend is to talk to a user called The Next. He seems real well informed on x10. I'm certain he could shed more light on the question for you, and thus you will avoid the "posts" you will receive. Hope that helps.

Thanks Blackfox. I noticed that everytime this issue comes up in any form there seems to be all out war. Thats why I asked the question, but it seems to stir strong feelings for some reason.

My only question is that it is worthwhile owning both FPSC and the X series? I thought the forum might have a calm, measured opinion on that subject. Forget my earlier post and lets avoid another war of words.

It's no problem. Always happy to help out someone. As I mentioned earlier, if you are wondering about purchasing x10, talk to The Next. I'm certain a clear answer can be given to you. From our perspective, we like both. Since my wife and I are partners in development and we have our mod in x9, we're looking at porting our mod into x10 as well. In our view, it is a benefit for us to have both so we are not limited in our development. Other doors and possibilities open up. But that is just our reasoning. You might find that after purchasing it, you might like it or not like it. We've purchases software before and it still sits on the shelf unused until the day when we want it.

Anyways, glad to help out. Best of luck.

Most x10ers (including myself) own x9 as well. I had x9 first and then bought x10. Really, all you need is an x10er that is a regular poster on the x10 boards. We're all equally as knowledgeable about the product for the most part.

The X9 / X10 dispute is actually not that important,

Anyone really serious about the future of game development will know the greater concern is moving away from 32bit application memory limitations to 64bit architecture where those limits don't exist.

There are currently no plans for TGC to release a 64bit version of X9 or X10 but as maps become larger and more detailed this will become more significant than which version of directx you are using.

s4real is right, FPSC is X9, X9 isn't it's official name, it's called that by the community so it can be idenified as the original FPSC for DirectX 9.

There is no 'X series' it is 2 products FPS Creator and FPS Creator X10, X9 is just a nick name for FPS Creator, so if you have FPS Creator, you have "X9" already, like s4real said.

I personally think you should get x9 for the reason being that if you want to sell your game you sell it to the mass market and more people have direct x9 or windows xp than direct x10 or vista and windows 7 though I've seen some youtube videos about fpsc direct x10 and the water effects are amazing.

The water effects is just a scrolling normal map on a plane, loads of FPSC mods have it.

I'd love to see things from your point of view but I can't get my head that far up my bum.

Thanks for all the feedback. I wasn't really clear on what X9 really was (I thought it was a different product than FPSC. I already own FPSC (X9) and I am learning alot from the forums and the blogs.

I don't want to start any controversy, but it seems that these two products could both eventually evolve into "X11" for want of a better name.
