I'm using FPSC v1.16.
I noticed one thing:

Whenever I increase the darkness of a level, the frame rate decreases to like 15fps. This happens in the test level.

Brighter levels have faster fps.
Is it so for all the cases?
Does I have anything to do with the pixel shaders?(i have pixel shader 2.0)

Is there any alternate way to give a night effect in a particular level(not the whole game), without affecting the fps.

Logic tells me that making the level darker would increase the frame rate. It would seem that in a darker level, less triangles would be visible and therefore drawn at once, but then again... that's my logic and apparently not the engines logic.

If the fps does indeed decrease as you darken the level, then I'd have to attribute it to DBPro having a hard time working in the dark.

FPSC doesn't work like that. It doesn't dynamically unload triangles if the're dark, just renders them as being dark...

why darkness makes your frame rate drop is weird. Is it consistently low when it's dark, or just a spike as it darkens?

After long hours of trial n error,..

Made longer paths towards a bigger room.
I kept the darkness the same.
In Preferences,
I selected "No Shader Effects"
"Texture quality Medium"

Frame rate now goes to 20fps instead of 15fps.
Is there any way to improve fps to around 25 at least, irrespective of the light effects?

What if I select "No Light Mapping"
Would it make any great difference?

Light mapping only really slows the build time. It generates the textures at that time, so I doubt it would make any difference to frame rate. Shaders will, but if you have already disabled those, not much left to do. You can lower the quality further, or you could edit the config to alter the screen resolution possibly(not 100% sure as I haven't done it yet, but if it isn't possible then I would be highly surprised. I think 1024x768 is default, you could try 800x600 or 640x480, as I imagine it must be your video card causing most your problems.
What is your rig btw? I have no problems at the minute with tests, and my pc is hardly a beast these days. Q6600 + Geforce 7900 and enough memory to play with.
Edit - Oh try to use static objects whenever possible too, dynamic ones will eat up more cpu time.

@DVader

If u'll read my pc specs, u'll laugh...

Purchased in 2006

Compaq Presario
Windows XP 32-bit, 1GB RAM,
128MB on-board ATI graphic card.
Pentium 4 processor.
The best I need to do is upgrade my pc/motherboard ..

However, i'll try changing resolution to 640x480.

The way FPSC works for rendering is a little silly at times. If your specs are acturly quite good then I would just suggest pressing 'X' (I think) in the test game and it sets your sync rate to 60, which weridly enough, can stop lag spikes in FPSC aswell.

Windows 7, Amd Athlon 7750 Black Editon (64 bit,3ghz + Dual Core), ATI Readon HD 4870 1gb Edition, 4gb Ram.

Ooh, I wonder if that mimicks (or is) setting the display mode to use the monitor sync, or just limiting it to 60? I have noticed that my levels seem to run a fair biut faster when I use db to run them rather than the fps exe.
