Hello everyone, I've started brainstorming ideas for a game project and I'm getting quite into it, I'm thinking RPG or Post-apoc type game. currently I'm still on the idea stage, but If anyone wants to help out, you can get me on MSN or skype, or you could post here or email me. Major inspiration is from Fallout and Oblivion

Some ideas:
War between many post apoc towns, and muties and other crap in the middle

Classic RPG revenge tale

Gaurd for a post - apoc town

Keep in mind these ideas are of course very broad and can be expanded upon quite a bit. This game is going to be a realistic next-gen using the UDK

And don't expect any pay, even when the game's released, I'm not planning on making a profit from this game, but itll be a great learning experiance

Alright, so an update, the game is going to be post-apoc so I thought an asset that would be very helpful for me in such a game would be some corrugated sheet metal. I have two variations so far, one that is tileable and one that is....not. I'm thinking next I'm going to have to make a knife of some sorts with which the player will begin the game with.

Me personally i would start off with a common gun that people have for home protection

i.e.
Any number of .45 pistols
12 gauge pump

or something that would be easily accessible

i.e.
baseball bat
Axe/sledge
kitchen knife

and me personally.
I dont have any knives or guns in my room but if someone were to come into the house i would break my window and take a piece of glass
probably not though

i would most likely just go out the window and grab the .45 out of the truck.

but try something that is likely to be around.

Not many people have combat knifes laying around.

Of course if it is a military character, definitely use a k-bar or even just a G.I. Shovel.

The thing is, your a disturbed homocidil 18 year old with a drunk for a father and this is after the apocalypse with murderers, rapists and mutants running rampant. Your also member of a gang, so I'm pretty sure youd have a knife :p

and here is progress on that knife

@Quik: What do you believe in for home protection then?

As for me, I actually do have 3 combat knives stashed throughout my room and a small shotgun next to my door. And that's just in my bedroom... xD

considering that i dont believe in violence at all, or that killing someone (which is usually what happens when you shoot someone) will solve anything....

@quik,
What happens when (if) you have a family and some crazy bastard comes in with a gun, because maybe you did something indirectly to him and he decides he wants to shoot?

So you would let him take yours and your families' life because you dont believe in violence?

Im sorry, but i would be much obliged to take dads .45 (if he wasnt there) and be the decision maker.

Yeah, that kind of thing just doesn't happen often enough in the UK. Do all Americams try to solve their problems with a gun?

I'd love to see things from your point of view but I can't get my head that far up my bum.

if it was that easy to get a gun here in sweden that would be a problem, however it isnt.

and i dont think i could take another persons life anyhow, even if my life hanged on it, maybe if it was purely instinct

Way to put a generalization on everyone.
And no all Americans do not.

I never personally have found the need to ever take the gun out except for cleaning and practice.

And if my life was in the sights of another person, unless i know they wont do it, im not hesitating, and neither would my father.
But i really do hope it never happens whatever the outcome.
I dont sit at my door waiting with a gun for anyone that looks dangerous.

People who own guns usually arent like that. But the select few, mainly gangs and abusive peoples, give us regular gun owners a bad name as proven by Aagreens statement.

Alright im done talking about this, back on topic.

Sorry for the thread jack Camo

You can still remove lots of edges on that model.

I highlighted some of the major edges But was unsure About some of them as it is only a side view and cannot tell whether or not they are at a different position than the others so i highlighted some of them light blue

How about the ones on the bottom of the blade?

Its all straight so you dont need all those vertices there.

And on the top of the handle you could also remove some.

the top of the handle has a bevel to them so i keep them, and MMOJ taking those edges away will make no difference to the try count, just make the tris quads and I already took many edges off the blade, trust me I've taken it as far as I can, all the edges on the outside are so the low poly matches the highpoly as best it can

The handle curve doesn't need to be that detailed, you could get away with straightening it a bit at the top. And keep in mind that game engines usually triangulate models, so removing those red bits is pointless.

Have you also experimented with smoothing groups yet?

Alright heres an update, I don't know the exact tricount but its at about 480. This is just a test bake, but the final bake is gonna be done in a few.

@Aaagreen - thanks, but at 480 while it still keeps the EXACT shiloette, I'm all good

i would take some polys out of the handle (wouldn't it be covered up by the hand anyway?) and invest a little more in the edge of the blade.

Remember those old guys? They made epic renders, I think one of them was called DaVinci, and all they used was MS Paint. Sometimes it's just skill....
