DarkBASIC Professional Discussion / Error when friend runs my .exe

Hi all,

My friend is having problems running my .exe.

1) Apparently one of the problems is with DirectX. I guess they just need to download the latest one.

2) My friend gets this error:

Failed to load DLL (1: DBProSetupDebug.dll)

I thought all one needs to run a DBPro game is the executable and media files. What's going on?

He/She needs to install DirectX 9 to get any Darkbasic program to work. It won't interfere with DirectX 10 if they already have that.

You mean putting up an earlier DX onto 10 and nothing wrong will happen because of this? Is this absolutely for sure?

So if they have DirectX 10 (for example), but not 9, they still need 9? I don't understand this kind of stuff but I thought the latest DirectXs covers all previous ones...

I think on my system I have directX 7, 8, 9.0c and maybe 10, all sitting there waiting for some code to use them.

So yes you can put as may as you want on there, the game's code works it out which one to use themselves.

Well that's one thing i was surprised on the realization of putting different DX's up is okay, but 'DB_Newbie' even i know the answer for that: DX10 is a totally re-written stuff, so DBPro won't find anything in it to use. I was thinking of stabbing myself in the head till i read here it is okay to install them both at the same time.

That was true, right up until DX10 when MS changed their minds on that.
