It has been sucking since I downloaded it.

ONLY compiles if in the window. (If you switch windows while compiling it just stops and I have to close it.)

Crashes randomly.

Always says It's crashed whenever I close it.

Just because I use BASIC, doesn't mean I can't code with anything else.

haven't dbpro's packaged editors always been bad? i would just stick with codesurge.


Remember those old guys? They made epic renders, I think one of them was called DaVinci, and all they used was MS Paint. Sometimes it's just skill....

It was a little early to switch to it i guess, would have needed some months of tweaking. Though i don't like it anyway, bearly leaves space for the actual code...

But i don't like it in the first place because for me it won't EVER compile. Only on our two other crappy machines which bearly can handle web browsing it will work, but on my computer which could actually handle graphics it won't. How uncool is that.

Dont know if you ever used the old editor, but trust me, the new one is much much better than the old one which i lost so much code to, although if you dnt like the new ide then codesurge is good as mentioned above, i use that aswell.

I shrink the text size so more fits on screen, you can do that in the setting menu

Are you sure you have the update 7.5 version because that used to happen on the older version. Never have that problem anymore and I'm always flicking to the browser while waiting for something to compile. (I'm on build June 23 2010 in the about dialog)

I never liked any of the Editors that came with Darkbasic. That's why I use BlueIDE. It has a few things that the other IDEs don't have (that I know of). In Project Organization the first tab is History where you can add notes for version changes to your programs. The most important to me next to the Media tab on the right is a Library tab where you can add your own code snips. Just click twice on a code snip title and the code snip is copied into your code wherever the cursor is.

You could close the side bars you don't need, and shrink the ones you need. I did that too, but since I got my new full HD screen, I have the feeling too much code fits on it

I liked the editor that came with DGS. But this new one is just annoying. I think i'll switch to codesurge again.

They are the same.
This 'new' version is just an updated version of Synergy Editor, which I personally find it brilliant.
Not really any point making a thread about it. Use what you like, no ones stopping you.

I've used all three editors...Synergy (DBPRO's), Code Surge, and BlueIDE 2.

My choice is BlueIDE 2, hands down. You can access your plug-ins to find one you want to use (something you can't do with the others). Media is easier to manage, the code snippet thing, and on and on.

My advice...Quit messing with Synergy and try a GOOD editor

I can't say I've ever tried BlueIDE; I'm a die hard Codesurge user.

I tried both Synergy and Codesurge; after the original DBP editor blanked a 15000 line project (Also taught me a valuable lesson about making regular backups!).

I didn't get on so well with Synergy, I found it bugged (Which it seems carried on well into it being adopted/adapted as the new DBP editor.

Codesurge is very stable, although it is lacking in "features"; but it does the job very well.

BlueIDE is real stable and only occasionally eats not code but the project information in the .dbpro file. It'll appear to eat code because the project data becomes corrupted and doesn't know which .dba file to load.

I love codesurge. The only time i use the dbp (synergy) ide is when i need help on a command (F1), because for some reason it doesnt work in codesurge (probably something buggy with my settings somewhere).
Is blueIDE stable on Windows 7? If so, ill give it a go.

EDIT: i downloaded the latest blueIDE (2.0.22) but it wont run (component mscomctl.ocx or one of it's dependencies not correctly registered...) so i guess its a no go for Windows 7

I had that problem soooo many times on the original IDE, it was that bad that it put me off DBPro at one point

As for BlueIDE, I use to use that, but it was when it was still in the development stage very early on, i take it it was finished.

In BlueIDEs System Files directory you can run Install.bat that'll copy all the files needed to run BlueIDE into your Windows System32 directory (just a few .dlls and .ocx files).

Yeah, version 1 was done a while back and it's on version 2 now (back in 2008).

@ Everybody:

When I was writing this message I did a search for BlueIDE and found Balids WIP post for BlueIDE 2. I then clicked on his profile and searched all his messages to see if he's still posting. To my surprise he's making a new IDE called Indigo that looks simular to BlueIDE and has many of the same features I love (like the code snip library). Right now it's just a demo but I'm going to try it.

Edit: Apparently the demo expired 9-1-10 so it keeps bringing up an error that it's stopped working.

Am I the only person who's had NO issues with the default IDE and actually prefer the new default IDE?

I've never had it eat code, I've never had it crash when changing windows, and you can indeed insert a code snippet by right clicking and selecting "Insert Code Snippet"

i liked the old IDE more too, but every time there's an error in some of the include files the code from include file would dissapear and i would have to reopen the project to restore the code. If I didn't save before the compile and error occures the code would be vanished forever. That's why i had to switch to new editor. Did you ever experienced something like that? Isn't that frustrating?

Wow how awesome i haven't used include since the Classic days. Though i have been playing with the idea recently, good to know it isn't fun with the default.

I like the first DBPro IDE a lot, simple, there is the code, and yeah... nothing else comes into my way. However it has its mentioned stupid things, though non of those happened to me, however closing/opening the functions is crap since after i closed one, my new typings become invisible for some reason... so that's it, with "making my code shorter and easier to understand"...

When I read the above I said "Really?" and quickly went into the new editor. After it loaded I right clicked and it opened up a very small window that doesn't allow making it bigger and clicked on DO which I assumed would make a DO/LOOP. I was greeted with a "Darkbasic Professional Editor has stopped working." error (see attachment). I didn't know it had any kind of code snip but even if I did know it wouldn't of ever worked for me. I really wish it did work.

I'll stick to BlueIDE 2 till Balid releases Indigo.

is there any way with the new editor to look at two sections of code at once? like with the old one, you could 'pull down from the top' another section

I quite like the new editor too. But I have already noticed a horrendous bug in it (within literally 30 minutes of using it). Try and copy a lot of *.jpg files from a directory into the media area and not all of them copy, and some of them lose part of their file names.

Shocking bug.

It doesn't look like it... but in BlueIDE 2 you can look at 4 sections of code at once (see attached image).

@Mobiius:

Yeah it's weird but it really looked like it was like an afterthought to add code snips... not a dedicated area like in BlueIDE 2 and Indigo.
