Hello guys, thanks for trying to welcome me into darkbasic, but im finding that the graphic drawbacks are to big. im moving to C#, i might be back, if i do make a good game, ill be sure to send screenshots.

OR

is there NO graphic limitations, and i was just seeing FPS creator work? i want a not unreal engine quality, but good quality, is it only limited by the skill of the modeler? and COULD i use unreal for the map? (i know if i use unreal that i will have to buy a licence from epic.)

Thanks.

Have a look at some of the games made with DBPro first before you jump to any conclusions.

Worlds Apart Online for example.

I'm not sure if your problem came from real disappointment. The modeling part is what made me unsure, of course a game's look highly depends on the media creator, but you can't say DBP is bad because your game media has no quality.

Games made by ANY engines and coding languages look initially bad, then by time and many effort it evolves. First you always think wow, "i'm good!", but you come back tomorrow and you feel "how could i think it was good..." so you change things. And it goes until it becomes real good.

I've thought for a long time too, that DBP just can't handle anything worthwhile, but i kinda start feeling how is it kinda the same with every language: you have to get to know it's secrets, details, you have to, and you CAN always tweak a code to be faster, and faster. It is the same, with the media. You create the core, than you tweak it until it not just functions well, but fast as well.

Of course there are limits like with any other engines, and these may be closer a bit than with other programs... but this is why it's free.

^^^a variety of good high quality different style things made with DBPro.

Mostly, for a good, polished game, you just need to put in a lot of time, and have skills at programming and graphics (one or the other or both).

If you want to take advantage 100% of nex gen graphics... you'll probably have to go lower level than basic - which means more work thats harder.

You really haven't given Darkbasic Pro and yourself enough time to judge it's graphic quality or your ability to program in it. It takes years of practice to learn anything. Since it appears you've never programmed before the concepts are foreign to you and thus harder to learn but you will get there if you keep trying. I encourage you to learn programming no matter what language you decide but if you do decide to go to C# don't give up after 5 months like you did with Darkbasic Pro.

Learning c# won't help you to make better graphics

Of course it will, as he could then use XNA which would allow him to produce many graphical things far more simply than is possible in DBPro.

Perhaps you meant to say: c# won't make your media look better.

its bit like going out to by painting equipment, you can buy the water colors and paper, but if your no good at putting them on the paper moving up to oils paints won't make it any easier or better.

same with getting Maya, will not make great at making models for you games unless you understand how a 3D object it built and textured.

some on here have all the toys but without patience with learning them, some logic you'll be very disappointed with what you can do with them.

I mean, I have truespace but can I use it not really, so getting those wow models are not going to happen.

So go on go back and give DarkBasic another go and see what was giving you the low graphic look.

Dark Physics makes any hot drink go cold.

Just keep practicing mate I don't think learning C# will make things easier. If you'd like some help, you can add me on msn, it'd be fun to work on an FPS
