I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place, and it will probably get locked, but I feel I can no longer keep my silence on the matter.

I know I am a relative newcomer to this community and I stick by what I said in my introduction post. This is an amazing community, one which I feel privileged to be a part of.

But PLEASE can we stop the petty arguing and nit-picking over trivia. I know I have participated in a couple of arguments, for which I apologise, but it seems like not a day goes by when there isn't a new argument been started up in someone's thread.

I know we are all entitled to our opinions, and people don't generally like to back-down when they feel they are right. But is there really any point in nit-picking over such trivial things as who's thread is being bumped the most, or who is or isn't doing said bumping; or who gives the most usefull comments to another forum user; or which is best- x9 or x10?

We are a COMMUNITY of like-minded game-making enthusiasts. We should be supporting and encouraging each other's work, not letting ourselves get dragged into petty arguments all the time.

If we spent as much energy on our various projects as we do on the endless, pointless arguing, just imagine how amazing our work would be?!

I game therefore I am.

I appreciate your concerns and agree with you. But just like there seems to always be war in this world, there will also always be arguments that are never productive. Those who are continuously contentious. So, this is why this thread will be locked because this will also probably start contentious arguments.

We just have to ignore them; that's all we can do, and continue on being as productive as we can be.

There I said my piece before this gets . . .

To paraphrase....

bruce3371 Can't we all just get along?

F l a t l a n d e r No.

In a perfect world there would be no need for this thread, but in a world-wide forum of people from all ages and walks of life, I think we do a fine job.

Just to get back on topic....

Quote: "But is there really any point in nit-picking over such trivial things as who's thread is being bumped the most, or who is or isn't doing said bumping"

I don't think that's what the issue is. I see on the one side members who create and display or try to sell a finished product and on the other side members who start new threads with the mention of starting something they may or may not do. Some of these threads turn into little more than a messenger service, being contiuously bumped to the top of the page while the person who has taken the time to complete his work see's his thread pushed to the next page.

After a while, it seems that the time and effort taken to create and sell something seems not worth it at all. I know we all like free content but it's the long standing, experienced artists who move this product forward and if we continue to disrespect them, they will move on. It may seem trivial to you, but to those who put forth the effort, only to be pushed off the page, it is an issue. Frankly, I think it's one which deserves a little thought.

I totally agree with you xplosys.

But, surely arguing about it in those threads, only serves to push the genuine threads down even further?

I guess it's a bit of a Catch 22 situation;

When we try to get people to stop pushing the quality threads down the page, we end up arguing about it, thus serving to push the quality threads even further down.

Only the pointless arguing about it seems trivial. However the situation itself, as you quite rightly pointed out, is far from being trivial.

I don't know if this is on topic or not, but . . .

I am the creator of FPI EditPad and RPG Mod. There have been times when I just wanted to move on and share the products. I knew I would finish them but there were some who did not respect me and I just thought I would say, "the hake with all of you guys." I'll use it myself but why share. I am retired and like Cosmic Prophet enjoy sharing with others. I have no need of financial gain. But even when it's free there were people who would complain. Their not doing that so much now but I'm also not getting much kudos either. Everybody needs kudos even when you are in those twilight years. However, they are not as necessary as they were when I was younger.

People have differences of opinion and that is natural, but insisting that one opinion is better than others is what gets an arguement started.
If people would stop trying to convert everyone to their way of thinking then we would not have any arguements.

Quote: "Only the pointless arguing about it seems trivial. However the situation itself, as you quite rightly pointed out, is far from being trivial."

See, you think it's trivial and someone else doesn't think so.
There is a difference of opinion, which some may see as an arguement.

It is just a part of the human communication process.

Excessive bumping is bad, but bumping something good (like Bond's shaders) from the second page is justified.
The good stuff gets bumped by others, and if it doesn't then having to click that 'next' button is not a deal breaker.
With all of the stuff being released, it is just a matter of time before anything gets knocked down to the second page.
Instead of complaining about it, just bump it up again.
There is a search facility here though, so having things stay on the first page of threads is not all that neccessary.
If you want people to see the stuff you made then announce it in the newsletter or put it in the TGC store.

Quote: "I guess it's a bit of a Catch 22 situation"

Asking people not to argue in a discussion forum is like asking them not to take a dump after Thanksgiving dinner.
It's gonna happen.

I see your point though, and I too get caught up in arguements when someone bashes TGC or FPSC. (have to break out the armor)
I tried ignoring the idiots like others suggested, but it was a bit tricky ignoring myself, so I had to give that up.
