I want to make a game that plays over the Internet. It will be a turn based game so there is no live action. Thought I want him to see your dice rolls. How hard is it to make the connection to an other player, and pass information? Are there any tutorials on this?

What I want is to do as test is: make the connection, hit a button and you both see a die roll. Thank you for any suggestions or help.

That'd use the MULTIPLAYER command set (mostly theNet Message and Send Net Message command group). I think it shouldn't be too horribly hard, it's very intelligent of you to start with something with no live action, that's a LOT easier. Past that I can't give you detailed help, I've used those commands very little.

G'luck!

I just found the info about it in the help section. it looks a little difficult for someone that don't know about packets and networking. If anyone could make it clearer (or a working example) I would appreciate it.

How do you send a string or number to another machine?
I have read the help tried obvious combinations of code, but nothing seems to get though.

Ok, I can't test this 'cuz of my firewall... but...

Try creating a game over TCP/IP, and having the client computer check for TCP/IP sessions at the specified IP address (perform checklist for net sessions) and print its data. Next step is joining, then sending. It should be fairly simple once you've got the connection established-- send and recieve, send and recieve. I hope

Guys--

Go to 'Technical Documents' from your DBP help main;
Click on 'Multiplayer Secrets';
Read and learn!

It's a great document by a multiplayer pro .

Yes Mouse I mentioned above that I found those. They are a little spartan. Not enough to get a beginner in NetGaming going. You say it's easy but I am stumped. Can you email an example?

Can anyone else help,or have an example, since more then one person is interested in learning?

Online game - WOW that is quite a huge step for me.
Well if you can figure it out then "BL***Y GREAT!!!!"
Basically i dont want to learn this yet, i am making an actual game - it wil be out in 2005 or 2006.
I do know where you get copyright as well by the way.

My game will make sure Final Fantasy will never be forgotten.
Remember me because my game will be in the shops in a year or 2.

Sorry Guyon, didn't see that.

I personally think the tutorial is excellent and explains stuff pretty well. If I wasn't behind this blasted ICS that dosen't seem to handle opening ports very well, I'd give it a go myself.

I wish I could, but my internet connection sharing won't let me

You figure out how to get around *that* and you get as many gold medals as I can think up

No Mouse, I am not that good. IanM's program did everything to get past my Lynksys Firewall. All I did was let it past Zone Alarm (my internal fire wall).
