I'm trying to create something similar to bond1's blood spatter on the Chainsaw Brute Boss from Model Pack 22 but I can't make it correct. Could someone please help.

This is the sample blood spat, maybe not the best but I wanna be able to make it alpha. I use Photoshop CS3 with the official NVIDIA DDS plugin.

Delete all the black so the checker pattern shows through, then save out as DXT5 .dds and you should be fine.

Here is a quick dxt5 of your jpg (attached)

It should work, works fine for me. Make the black part a half transparent layer then save as DXT5 .dds file and must work.

So you didn't use an alpha channel, just made a layer semi transparent?

so you didnt use a semi transparent layer, you just used an alpha channel? Also did you have to set anything in the editor, or anything else, just the alpha channel, and NOTHING else? Remember this is SEMI transparent I want.

I use Paint.NET, which is free, and all you have to do is open the layer properties and then move the opacity slider, then save as dds.

Here is one that is semi transparent but I use the A8R8G8B8 not the DXT5...

Here is a DXT5 also, (just incase the other format doesn't work right, but it works fine for textures)...

There is a big difference in the file sizes though so I am going to have to try the DXT5 instead of using the A8R8G8B8 all the time.

I left a bit of the black for an fine outline when I was removing the black with the magic wand prior to setting the transparency.
I could probably get all of that out if you want and I can go darker or lighter on that transparency too, so let me know.

Here is a short video of how I did it...

1) Open your file in Paint.NET

2) Select the magic wand and remove the black. (notice I had to adjust the tolerance slider to get the wand to take out the right amount)

3) Select the layer properties and adjust the opacity slider.

4) Save as DDS selecting the type of DDS you want from the drop down list.

And finally an ingame shot with one of Cosmic Prophet's characters from his soon to be released "wasteland" pack that I'm lucky enough to be beta testing...

That DXT5 does work nicely. (this screenshot is using the one made from the video)
