I playtested some new downloads from the forums and realized that a 10x10 segments testmap with some static entities , 7 dynamic NPCs and 3 dynamic weapons used up 1.3 GB in the testgame.

To me that looks as if there isn't much left to fill the level with more than the basics.

I would be interested if any pre-1.17 BotB listed games are allready tested if the 1.17 engine allows a build at all. I have the suspicion that not all will.

In v1.16 beta 18 I have no problem building a 40x40 build map with 12 enemies, 6 dynamic weapons, lights, sunlight, and tonnes of static entities. It's all about optimization. I was able to keep the level below 80,000 polygons. also- using large, dark lights is the way to go instead of many small ones.

I have heard the limit is actually about 1.8 gig in all. Can't see any way to improve that apart from 64 bit memory access but very much doubt that will happen any time soon if ever. A shame, because I believe most FPS engines are 64 bit now and so will have no memory issues at all. Still most are a tad more expensive than FPS creator lol and a little harder to learn I would imagine.
The Unreal engine is free now, but I had a look and it looked so horrendously complex I soon forgot about it. you have to buy a license to sell a game but that's the price of using just a high end tool.

Why would most FPS engines be 64bit?? considering only about 10% of gamers even use a 64bit System and OS the other 90% would not be able to play the game

First of all, you'd be surprised how much more you can get before it exceeds the limits.

The following map uses a max of 1.97 GB but about 1.7 GB total. The default ceiling is 1.85 GB but you can turn that off. However you cannot go over 2 GB or it will crash. So you have watch the limit as you continually grow your level. I still could squeeze out some but I'm glad I am finished with the level design. I will have a lot more scripts but they do not count against the LM memory. They will count with the overall compile size.

I go from layer 5 down to layer 0.

I attached a large Euthanasia Map to this post to show that you really don't need to worry about this.

It uses something over 1,6 gig, so I could still add some more.

I would like to know if Nickydude can build his full 'He Is Coming' map in the V118 BETA.

I don't see any reason why it would build in earlier versions of the engine and not in the latest though if the 2GB limit has always been there.

Old maps that exceeded the level had errors, like places that aren't lightmapped etc.

Wolf, I like your map. I'm going to have to visit your WIP thread.
