Im gonna release my game this christmas and right now I dont know if I will charging anything or if it will be free so I would like to know how much do you charge for your game and how many copies did you sell (if any). Also if you have any website where I can take a look at your game or play a demo that would be great.

Thank you.

I've only heard of a handful of FPSC games that were being sold.

95% of developers give away theirs for free here.

Go to the Showcase section and download some of the games...

I would probally say since it is FPSC, no more then £10/$20 (Only a rough value)
Depends on how good the game is though. Normally FPSC games are good for a engine such as iteself but I can never say that they should sell at something like £30/$60 (Once again, only a rough value)

Windows 7, Amd Athlon 7750 Black Editon (64 bit,3ghz + Dual Core), ATI Readon HD 4870 1gb Edition, 4gb Ram.

Well I been around this forums more than you and I have seen many games being sold online even I remember some of them being published.

@Bigsnake: I think 10 pounds its too much, I was thinking something between 2-5 pounds for my game but Im sure right now, because I may wait for the 1.18 update to add a few things I have in mind.

I don't know of anybody who has sold their game. It will be interesting to see how many respond. There sure had been plenty who had responded to what mod they use but whether they have made a game with that mod in order to sell. I haven't a clue.

You are probably right about what you are thinking. I would say between 3 and 8 pounds ($7-$15 US).

What??? Your developing side-kick not count? Lol

You don't have to publish it and stick a $7-$15 price tag on it to qualify as selling a game. There are other methods some of us have

My wife and I have hit 10 developments that were sold to private clients (organizations) and have done rather well with the sales.

You are wrong here.I've been around since late '06,so that assumption was wrong .I am aware of a few games that were published, that's true.

Off-top I think one was called Mob Ties:Tokyo or something.

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/03/23/mob-ties-tokyo-demo-school-ties-more-like/

One thing that's important here though is not if a game is being "sold" , rather what type of income does it bring.

I can sell a simple FPSC game theoretically right now.Put up a PayPal button , or whatever , but would it actually sell? .. You answer that question for yourself.

Although , even the smallest income is good for an indie / hobby developer , as long as its bigger than the amount he put in that game (if any).

By the way , I think recently a game was published by IndiaGames or something called Terror Attack : Project Fateh.

<3 thanks zay. I r so happeh nao.

also, while it is true that some of the games sold are admittedly of a lesser quality and polish than the ones that some of our forum's developers release for free, we've got to give credit to the authors of these games for going through the rigamaroll of actually getting with a publisher and releasing it.

last, we can't admit (me, zay, wolf, metal devil, Lewis, Wolf, Etc.) that we haven't at least let "sell the game" cross our minds. I know I've taken screen shots of a level of mine, and thinking "wow, back a few years ago I would've payed 50$ for this kind of quality, and still today I'd pay around 15$. It was a big decision that I thought about for a good long while before I finally concluded that THIS game of mine would be free.

I wanted you to respond yourself since you don't necessarily advertise on the forums. That is what I actually meant is I haven't "seen" (know poor choice of words) anybody that is selling their games.

Yup, free games. Quite a few. In fact, more than likely I will give mine away free. However, it is going to take several months before it's finished.

I only know that Wolf, Wray and Lewis has finished a game, but don't remember playing your games, so that means that the screens are superior... ?

And it's not a bad idea to sell it. Get it on Steam, that would be an accomplishment

@ mgarand:

we don't WANT to sell it, it's just that there's obviously been a time when we were like "I'd pay money for this" after viewing a screen

Well, I didn't charge anything. Its still nice to hear that people concider my games commercial quality. (Thanks @Zay)

I have used some material in the latest game (Euthanasia) that where strictly non-commercial so I couldn't even release it if I wanted to. If you want to sell it, you need to read the license of every modelpack or texture or sound you ever added to the game.

Anyway, my latest release is spreading fast through the web... and not a single file hoster asked my permission even though its written in the license. (I don't mind at all...just an example on how much people care about licenses )

Well, I hope you stay on the free side of the might ( or whatever).

BTW: you have to support a commercial release...so you get people writing you emails about your game not working on their windows 98 system and blaming it all on you and your lag of skills on a daily basis...its kinda annoying. (and I already had such folks... even though the game is completely free)

I'm actaully currently working on a game that i'm going to release for free.

But the option of selling your game is completely up to you. If you really think it's top of the charts, then go for it.

Cheers, Jake

I'm still toying with the idea of charging for my game when I release it, but if I do, it will be no more than a fiver (£5)
