I posted this on a different thread, then thought I'd post it to it's own, so others could find it easily. Hope it helps some folks out. Thanks.

The download contains the tutorial, and templates in .bmp, and .psd formats. It's done using Photoshop, but can easily be adapted for use in other Graphics apps.

With bond1's sprite shader decals wont be used any longer, the shader he did for the shadow room in this months newsletter is based on the sprite shader he released for free and it simply plays the animation on ANY surface. Those anims for example are 64 frames long and I believe could be longer, I have already tested with alpha (the swinging light is simply an animation on a plane using alpha channel) and it works a treat, he has told me he could enable it for scripting so it could even be turned on/off,use timers, etc.
The other thing about this type of walk animation is you can set the frames to play 1-64 linear or 8x8 whatever suits you, whereas decals in FPSC are strictly 4x4 and use only a plane.

True indeed, I get what what your saying, But correct me if I'm wrong, but does'nt the new particle feature still use the standard animated decals?

Yes it does but it only uses one frame of the decal which seems a waste of resources. It would be better to simply use one image alone and not these.

Right you are again,

Edit: can you use a single image with the particle system as it is now?

Still, nice tutorial and sure most will find it useful, will drop you a mail soon
Not sure about the one image thing I haven't had much time to look at it yet, maybe its just a place holder till they can get some single alpha images to use but it wouldnt be hard to snag a single frame from the existing decals if this was the case, maybe Lee just wants folks to be able to use the beta's straight out of the box for now.

Great tutorial and easy to follow. Cathy and I were planning out our decal creations when we saw this thread. Appreciate the time you spent on making this available for all of us. We will be using it to accomplish our goal.

We'd like to post this in our guide section as well so others can learn from it.

...looks really good, Cosmic Prophet.

Many will benefit from this, no doubt.

Could you point me in the right direction of where this was released?

I apparently didn't catch it.

The 1.18 update will allow for animated particles (a feature implemented by knxrb).
