Here's a little spaceship battle to watch! Each spaceship fights for itself. It targets another ship and chases it, shooting when it has a clear shot. Once a ship is being shot at, it leaves its target and starts to evade the chasing ship. While evading, if another ship passes across its view, it will target that ship and start to chase it down. Sometimes chasing ships will lose interest in their targets and fly around looking for another. Ships that have been destroyed just appear again in a random position to continue the battle.

The little spacecraft were modelled in my head and on paper, then typed into data statements to be created on the fly using a memblock. The starmap and engine flare/bullets/explosion images are also created at run-time. There is no external media, so you can copy 'n' paste 'n' enjoy!

You can download an exectuable version here:

Very, very impressive... I really like it

Lots of fun to watch in a window.

Especially impressive that you got those 3d ships in DATA statements!

Possibly the best 20-liner I've seen, along with your Ripples and Matrix ones; and Return to Phobos by Xeridox.

I'm beginning to believe that virtually anything can be fit into 20 lines by coders skilled enough

holy crap! this looks absolutely awesome! are they 2d ships, or 3d ones, cause if its 2d the depth perception is amazing! some of the animations it has looks like its definately 3d, when some turn on obscure angles etc. but absolutely awesome dude.

Due to a technical fault, all my files and demos have been deleted off my webspace. They will be put back when I've finished making my website.

Thanks for all the praise, I'm thinking about making this into a screensaver soon

Uberwiggett - they are 3d. All the model data is contained in the data statement at the beginning, then read off into a memblock and converted to a mesh

Yeah neat! I like the way the ships look for each other! I suppose that it's just a distance formula.

It's not only a distance formula, it also compares the angles between the ships, and which way they are facing, so ships will only chase other ships passing in their field of view.

I'm currently preparing a screensaver version, but vastly improved . There's a cruiser with twin beam laser turrets, proper ship models are used, the lasers and explosions look amazing (watch the cruiser explode! BOOM!), and options to set teams/free for all and the number of ships. Hopefully I'll soon implement name tags - something suggested at the DB UK convention - and some more varied camera angles.

Pincho that is a kind of bug, I didn't have enough lines to hide the bullets on creation, so they all stay there until fired.
