I don't. Zombie games are the most repetitive type, IMO.
But I like a story and levels that can be ended. No Nazi Zombies endless-game type of thing.

I reject your stereotype of Wisconsin and, in fact, live in a city.

Anyway, on topic. With this sort of game you probably want to go for:
-Moody lighting and sounds, normally dark and dull.
-Zombies that spawn behind you.
-Use particle effects to create some fog, or use lighting decals.
