After a bit of thinking and consideration I decided to go ahead and restart my Critters.

For those not familiar with the critters I've made here is a link to the old thread (http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=165976&b=24) At the end of that thread I had made a total of 7 critters + 3 never released critters. Unfortunately the "never released critters" will remain as so due to the fact that my old computer's hard drive went down and forced me to reformat it without being able to back up my data.

Anyways right now I am having a fight with a squirrel so I won't release any models right off until the squirrel submits to my might. I do have a pic of something someone requested and you my notice that the textures my not be the "best" in the world... but I include UV Maps with my critters so you can make your own texture maps.

with all that said lets get a mov... (come back here you squirrel!!)

I'm glad you guys like the chimp.

Now for that squirrel... We have signed a treaty that allowed him to have all the virtual nuts that he could ever want and that he would stop being a pain. The pic is the squirrel with the ps2 bumpbone shader that was given out in the 117 update.

Have you looked at a squirrel's anatomy before? There are so many things wrong I'd be wasting thread space explaining, but the main thing is the long legs.

before things get out of hand, The current models are in Testing stages. My path to making a model goes

1. make
2. UV Map
3. simple texture
4. Test
5. tweaks
6. Repeat 4 & 5 as necessary
7. Finished texture
8. Finalize

?. insert pics anywhere of build.

I am currently at 5 for the 21st time do to the fact that it took me a while to get the skeleton to work. now I start the process of making it almost perfect so no one will start a flame war in my thread.

...good to see that you're continuing with this genre, Gamer X.

C&C:

-That squirrel looks more like a lemur. As stated previously, the proportions are way off.
I'd work on the proportions, or retexture it, and concentrate on making it look more like a lemur.

-Overall, the chimp looks darn good. His head is too small for his body, though. I'd change that.
Also, the head sits too high above the shoulders. It should be lowered and brought forward.

sorry everyone, I've been slacking in the production of the models. I have had some bad nights and could not focus on these, but hopefully during this weekend, I will have the Chimp up for download.

"Interesting note"
I've been trying to make the critters work with the Rag-Doll feature in the 1.17+ updates. Unfortunately the chimp is to intelligent and can cause FPSC to crash upon death with the Rag-doll script set as the destroy. the squirrel not as much. It at least shows signs of working with rag-doll.

Bad news, I have been experiencing several problems with the chimp. I have done so much trying to correct the problem and ended up no where. My last resort is that I have to completely start over from my earliest save of him before he was rigged in the first place (always making check points just in case this happens). This does though allow for some detailing on him before I reattempt the rigging.

I found the 2 pesky problems and only was able to solve 1. So here is the download with the list of problems that you will encounter.

as for that one I solved... just so happened to be an "overlooked" number in the .fpe

For the record, I refuse to help anyone if the problem falls under one of the 3 listed.

anyways there are a few animations for I didn't go to far out of my way to make several like in my previous critters.

Basic animations (idle, walk, run, die). that's it.

so enjoy

...looks great.

I'll run him through FragMOTION, and see if any improvement on the shaders can be found.

Pretty sure the nix on ragdoll is due to skeletal naming convention issues required by FPSC.

I have started on a new critter, and I think you might like this one... I am currently working on the texture and once I am comfortable with the texture I will move to the rigging and animating.

actually all you have to do is hinge the bones for the ragdoll to work.

The wolf looks good Keep it up! This is something people could really find useful, unlike a chimp or a squirrel.
