Hello everyone.
Recently, I have been working on a level, and I was extremely happy with it, testing it as I went. Then, I added a small, important bit, and when I test game, it says I exceeded 1.85GB virtual memory for the test game. I dont mind exceeding this, is there any way to get around this?
Thanks.

What setting do you have for your lightmaps? Cause turning down the res(to the default 512) and lightmap quality(25-35 is good and does not take up much more ram) can fix that.

look at my screeny

open the setup.ini and change the zero to a one
then save as .ini before closeing and overwrite the old one.

That should fix it.

That could fix it and I do have it set at that. You could possibly get more but if you go beyond 2GB it will still crash. Seth zer0 has the right way to start fixing this problem. You just have to tweak it down. Even use less static lights and just have them in the right places.

Everything one does is a trial and error experience.

Yeah, but if his game goes over the 1.9x cap(never could get mine to go over 1.98gb before crashing.) it will still crash(and it most likely will if its hitting the 1.85gb cap already.). So his best bet is to tweak his lightmap settings to get those numbers down..

EDIT:Yeah thats a good point to flatlander. Try to cut back on some of your static lights as well if the first part doesn't help out.

Yup, 1.95gb had been OK for me. I think it's not really 2GB but 2,000 MB. 2gb is a little more than 2K MB. So, 1.98 is probably also over 2K MB.

OK, thanks.
I havent played with my lightmap quality, so it is set to default.
I do have LOADS of static lights so I will cut them down to about a quarter of what I currently have.
And I will change the cap to a 1. Thanks for that. (i assume from the name that it is what is stopping me from blowing this 'quota', which is really annoying because I have 4Gb RAM, and I will probably upgrade to 6 just for the sake of having more.
Thanks.

Virtual memory is not the same as the physical memory. Adding more will not fix your problem.

I also have 4GB DDR3 and I have the cap turned off and my game is well over 2GB's and it does not crash.

I believe it depends on your system.

Is that the size of your game or the size of the vram(the ram it take up in the build/test game process.). Check screeny(Not saying anything. Just seeing if were talking about the same thing.)cause I thought they said there is a cap of 2gb because of the 32bit OS.

Yes, i know, but if I have more physical memory, my other programs use less virtual memory, therefore, leaving more for FPSC.

Well I have to agree with seth zer0. Just don't set the quality beyond 50, since from personal experience, there isn't a lot of difference between 95 and 50 ,visually, besides the fact that the process takes longer and more ram is used up.

By the way Pain nice collection of games

Yes, I was thinking the same too... lucky you, you have COD.
(to keep on the subject)
ohhhhh...
I wish there was a 64 bit version. I dont know what differences need to be made to the coding for 64 bit programs when compared to 32 bit programs, but i would ask lee for a 64 bit version, however, I dont see the point when 32 bit works fine.

Oh well, the memory thing has worked perfectly.
THANKS!

Unfortunately it doesn't work fine. There are a lot of issues with building a game. Especially multilevel (4, 5 and more) games. I don't understand why levels can't be built separately and then merged into one game. Or why there can't be some kind of garbage collector launched when building a game.

Building 2 levels takes (on my machine) about 50 minutes and there is about 70% chances that it'll crash (issue posted here: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=176411&b=28)
I wouldn't mind if building takes 5 hours, but i'd like to have bigger chance to finnish it properly.

I dont have any issues with it myself. I assume you are using a 64 bit system then. Mine takes ages to do but atleast we dont need to build our games each time we wish to burn them to disks, correct?
At first, I did have problems, but I think they fixed that.

I will take a look at your thread to see if I can help.

when i try to change the cap like Pain says

"open the setup.ini and change the zero to a one
then save as .ini before closeing and overwrite the old one."

my comp says that i dont have permission. how do i get past this?

If you like, you can send me your setup.ini then I will change it and make a batch script to copy it back over your old one.

Make sure you are.

Hi

I have re-installed the free one but now there is no option in the setup file for the system memory cap. Is it possible for you to send me a better installer or update? does your programrun fine?

Mine does, yes. I can get the file to you, so long as you email me the setup.ini file. Then I can tweak it for you then send it back with a file you can use to copy it back over.
