Been working with a few guys on a project and thought I`d post up some of my latest for your crit. Bit of a departure for me and well out of my comfort zone doing stuff I under normal circumstances would steer away from.

Fist up a phonograph, Victorian precursor to the CD Player. Being a bit interested in history I looked into the history of these and the cylinder that the sound was recorded on was made of wax and was only good eough to listen to for upto 12 times but the cylinder could be shaved smooth and it was possible to record your own sounds onto.

Poly count 1031 with 1024x2 textures

Next up a telescope, I didnt bother to look into the history of these things

Poly count 920 with 1024*2 Textures

Streetlamp, cant make a victorian street without one, gas powered and highly decorated.

Polycount 377 and 1024*s textures

I needed to do some trees for the project and as a mate of mine had just released some tutorials on how to make them I thought I would follow them.

Both are under 225 poly`s with 1024*2 textures

The street lamp and Phonograph(except for big contrast changes in the texture/bad unwrapping) are really good.

The telescope could use a good high poly bake for a normal map, and the diffuse doesn't quite look like 1024, may i see the uv?

do you have a highpoly model of the scope? or was the normal generated from the diffuse.

Normal map was generated from a height map, as this is only a prop it is possible that the normal and specular will be dropped and any highlights painted directly onto the diffuse texture to save texture space, likewise most of these textures will be resized at a later stage.

Thanks wind27382, all really basic stuff to be honest.

good stuf, can't wait to see what it looks like when it's all done.

Do you have a bigger shot of the phonograph?
And could you please share your render setup?

The trees will stay as they are as the will be going up against a tree wall and most of the detail will be lost, they where made just to add some depth to the outer limits of the game area and the player wont be getting that close to them.

All the textures where hand painted in photoshop, most of the techniques used can be found in numerous tutorials on the web.

I now use Marmoset to render my models as it is far quicker to get results and it has pre defined lighting rigs that really help speed up the process, I would rather spend my time modelling than messing around setting renders.

Thanks for the nice comments guys, glad you enjoy the models. Next up a grand father clock and tall lamp.

If I find some time I may knock up a quick tutorial as to how I achieved the effect on the horn, its mainly done to the specular mapping which with a little photoshop trickery was made directly from the diffuse texture with a little bit of playing around. Its not hard to do just patient work.

Grand father clock is now done. Not quite as happy with it as I would like, not quite sure why but if I get time I will go back and have another look at it.

Link? I'd like to see those.

I liked the models as well - the phonograph reminds me of a gramophone record player my parents had when I was a kid. You had to wind it up by hand and it had wooden needles which could be sharpened and re-used. Those were the days ...

Finally found some time to get some more done for the steam punk project, The props where fun but not really showimg off what I can really do so I am going to go back to them a little later. Hopefully very soon there will be some ingame screen shots so I can see what they are really going to look like.

My latest piece. A steam punk trike, still in the early stages and some things are going to have to be swapped out and other parts a little more detailed. Just trying to get all the elements in there before refining and sorting everything out proper like. Still need to sort the chassis out, some form of steering method, fire box, controls then some steam punkish shizzle.
