Ok, just wondering everyone's opinion and experience with the games market.

If you want to develop a game and make a little income from it, which should you do?
1. Make it Free - Money comes from sposors
2. Make it donate. (haven't seen this work too well)
3. Sell it for X ammount

I prefer #3 as well, just wondering how everyone is going about it. I would think there is a market out there.

Homer: "Oh, I get it! We can donate, but we dont have to. Well then, You can find some other sucker to do it! Heheheh."

(Mr. Burgstrom puts dollar in donation box)

Homer: "Hey! did ya read the sign? You don't have to donate!"

Love that episode.

Ok, here's something I should have added:

4. Make a free demo and charge for full game.

I recomend getting your name and products out there first. Giving away products is a great way to attract new customers to your brand and products. Once you feel you have a large client base or customer base. Then start considering the idea of selling for profit. As suggested by s4real, make a demo and sell the full version. But you want to get your name out their first. So follow Microsofts footsteps. Give stuff away to brand your name to new customers. Then charge later.

My opinion: Unless your game is mindblowing you should give your game away for free.

If you charge money for something of low quality you will end up selling in the range of 0-1 copy of it. Hardly a way to make a living...

Thanks for the input. I am still learning so nothing earth shattering yet, but Still I thought about selling cheap to make some$ (how many of us spend more for MCDonalds or a not so great cup of coffee. Why not a little entertainment, albeit not earth shattering.

I do understand about giving it away, Spent most of my life as Senior VP of a retail corp. Just trying out selling as a test. Want to do demo and sell full game, but going to go with straight sell and then release demo later.

I am just getting my feet wet and it's a learning curve as always, but plan to do some more serious games in the future. Right now it's just fun.
