I have an outdoor level (yes, I'm aware of how fpsc struggles with outdoor levels) before I add smoke particles I get a frame-rate of 12-17 fps, but as soon as I add them it drops to between 1 and 8 fps :S

Is there any way I can optimise smoke particles, what are the best custom settings for them that won't make my frame-rate drop so low?

Particles are very, very processor intensive. I know it's not the answer you wanted.
