If you are wanting to just get the effect on the sun then a simple transparent plane with a png image should do the trick.

I would "set object light" to zero too...

If you want to affect clouds too that'll depend on how you're doing your clouds.

Well, there are a few ways. One way would to texture a plain, and have it with an image of a sun. then, you could have a white sprite and set its alpha based on the camera's angle relative to the sun object, for the glare. Every loop, you would point the object at the camera. I can write up some code for you after I get home.

Also, Cube engine, right?

Yes its the cube engine! The engine really does have fantastic shaders and such. and i was playing around it in and i noticed if you gounderground, you can see there is a big white splotch over the sun. So i guess thats what it does.

Also i found where they got the skycube.

Could this white light thing be the sky cube? Or is it something the game is doing? Also what setting do you use for a night skybox? No light?

Judging by the color bleeding on the grass I'd say that looks like a full-screen bloom shader. Try searching for "bloom" or "HDR" . I believe bond1 made a useful one recently.
