I am planning to get FPSC around Christmas no matter what I just need some urgent responses about which is better (and I KNOW this has been asked a gazillion times but please spare me a moment of your time).

I have recently seen that the new X9 update seems to make X10 a dying breed, and I'm wondering because I've just spent the last I don't know how long looking up on this (because just after I left the mystic thread I saw one with a topic a bit like this which made me think is X10 worth it?), It seems that this new update will make it a lot better and maybe push aside X10 a bit.

So heres the basics I would need met for my game idea and BTW I would like to know how they relate to my requirements (with or without mods or add-ons) not who can post more X10 or X9 hate. Here we go!: single player: large worlds, good combat support, custom models work, little lag, realistic effects, smooth play for most computers, compatible 3rd party utilities. multi player: medium worlds, good combat support, custom models work, little lag, good effects, lobby system (dunno is this here yet), deathmatch, team deathmatch, capturing flags or points.

All help is appreciated thank you!

I'm totally on the same page as you. I've read up on x10 being lesser of a focus for development and that X9 is slowly becoming equal to it. I'm ready to purchase x9 but I'm hoping that this is the right decision.

Heres my take on the whole thing. TGC has said that they plan to continue work on X9 only. I don't agree with that and here's why. As games advance more and more, X9 will probably keep being updated as well. But their comes a point in time when FPSC X9 will hit its cap with Direct X9, and will no longer be reasonably updated. What TGC will do after, idk. To me it just seems like it would have been a better idea to update X10. I know... I know... Vista sucks and nobody will ever switch from Windows Xp. But that isn't entirely true. I'm going to go ahead and take a guess that in the next 10 years, atleast 60% of the XP users will have upgraded to another OS. Now this OS may not be Vista, but TGC could surely fix all the bugs so that X10 could operate correctly with Windows 7.

I guess that didn't really help you guy's pick which product to buy...in that case I would just say X9 because it's still being updated (hopefully that changes to X10).

Personally I'd go for X9 hands down. There are many more mods out there that have more features and more support than X10 does. Plus X9 will still be updated.

@Silver Crow- By the point that FPSC has reached it's peak with 9.o c, X11 will be in use more than X10 so, using your logic, they might as well switch to X11. But that's just a matter of opinion and you are entitled to yours. this just happens to be mine.

I agree with some things you all are saying. fpscx9 is your best choose for right now. but its funny fpscx9 is playing catch with fpscx10. but fpscx10 already have the features that they trying to put in fpscx9. I say instead of dropping fpscx10 Lee should stayed with it. the only thing he would have to do is fix fpscx10 the bugs. instead of playing the add new features game than fix the new add feature bugs. with fpsx10 the updates would have surpass the updates that fpscx9 is on. plus the water is better in fpscx10. plus the performance is better in fpscx10. but without a lead role of updates fpscx10 does not matter anymore. It's all about fpscx9 now. plus bond1 great new shaders you should just go with fpsxc9.

more than what meets the eye

Actually I had never thought of that and you are completely right. Regardless, X10 has a bigger cap than X9, as X11 has a bigger cap than X10. But if they are not going to make an FPSCX11 then I say they probably still should have stuck with X10.

Ok so Ive heard the in depth comments, and sorry to hurry but I need to get everything together only a few days now!

just lay out this and put which is better in your opinion
singleplayer creation: X9 or X10
multiplayer creation: X9 or X10

most customizable: X9 or X10
best mods: X9 or X10
best graphics: X9 or X10
best effects: X9 or X10
most realistic: X9 or X10

And thank you all who have commented already, though I don't know which to go to yet you have shed a lot of light on the situation.

Single player: x9
Multiplayer: x9
Most Customizable: Tie; no one has fully utilized either one of them.
Best mods: x9
Best graphics: x10
Best effects: x10
Most realistic: x10

However, don't let this be your final decision. If you end up buying x10, you get a free copy of x9 with it. So it'll save you $70 if you eventually want to upgrade to x10 anyways.

Hope this helps

I do private FPSC scripting- email for more details.

Full, as of the latest versions your X10 serial will function in X9 as well, due the fact they're dropping X10 up to some extent.

You download the free version of x9, then enter your key.
There WILL be missing media, but you can copy it over from x10. With that, you also get x10-exclusive media in x9

It's pretty much as simple as copying and pasting your files folder.
