Hi,
I was wondering if it was possible to connect to multiple servers at one time. For instance, I would like a game-wide stats thing, where in-game you could see someones level and stats etc. I have multisync right now to use for multiplayer but I would be happy to change if it does not support this.

Thanks for reading.

Yes it is VERY possible to do this. Infact, I do believe that Omen who is creating an open source MMORPG for the community will add that. If he doesn't, then I will release a modified version of World Of Omen and then you will be able to.

His website is http://omen.lakehomegames.com/ and his thread about World of Omen can be found in this part of the boards, simply look for his name Omen or World of Omen

Wow! I'm glad that someone else is working on something that needs it too. I looked through his tutorials and I couldn't single out where he does the multiple server connecting part (there were a lot of them) but I think what he does is connect to one through udp and the other through tcp. If so, what plugins do you recommend for tcp (as I believe that multisync is udp).

Thank you.

Well, TCP is for a more stable connection, whereas UDP is for a more secure connection. You put the 2 together, and you have perfect networking. I recommend using KISTech's MYSQL DBConn as it allows you to connect and manipulate MYSQL databases. I also would recommend DarkNet as it is what Omen is using in the MMORPG

Together, these 2 DLLs are unstoppable

Hope that helps!

Have a good day!

really? I thought UDP was just faster as it didn't confirm the data had been received.

Yeah, thats wrong. UDP is for unreliable and TCP is for reliable.

DarkNet supports this, see http://www.darknetworking.net/.

and World of Omen uses DarkNet.

Thanks for replying. So TCP is used to stabilize the connection? (I would assume by this you mean it sends UDP all the time and periodically sends a TCP to verify) And it seems that the only way to connect to multiple servers in the way I like is to get Dark Net? If so, I might look into that mysql plugin. (until I can afford Dark Net at least)

Yes it is

And also, I am going to be adding a multiple server selection for my game soon, so I will upload an example to the forum when I'm done coding that part of the game

TCP is reliable so when you use mnSendTCP the packet is sent via TCP. UDP is unreliable but faster so packets can be dropped during transfer. Use mnSendUDP to send the packet via UDP.

Thank You! That would be excellent.

So you don't think it should be used like that? How would you recommend that I use TCP along with UDP?

P.S. Is there a difference with Dark Net and the Mike Net on your website?

This statement: "Well, TCP is for a more stable connection, whereas UDP is for a more secure connection." is ambiguous, what is a stable connection? And UDP is not any more secure than TCP. Unless the data is encrypted both are completely insecure.

MikeNet is exactly the same as DarkNet, just marketed differently. I'd rather you bought directly from me though (i.e. bought MikeNet) because that way I get 100% of the profits .
