I was making an thinking of making a MMORPG with the dark studio and dark basic. i need to know if some things were possible...

1. use with wired xbox 360 controller

2. make interactive furniture for their house with blender (3D modeling software)

3. Customizing a character, house, race car etc.

1. I believe there is a 360 controller DLL around here somewhere. Check the Program Announcements board.

2. DBPro will accept several model formats, including DirectX. Blender can export to .X format, so you're ok there. Making it "interactive" is possible, depending on your programming skills.

3. Also depends on your programming skills.

It's all possible but like KISTech said for #3 it all depends on your skill. If you're new to Darkbasic Pro don't expect to make your dream game overnight... this is true of every programming language out there.

Where's the face palm smiley when you need it?

Good luck.

You aren't the first person wanting to do this and you won't be the last.

MMORPG's are notoriously difficult (nearly impossible) to make succesfully on your own.

I would have a go at a few simpler games first.

If you want to see the beginnings of an MMORPG written in DBPro, have a look at Worlds Apart Online. It's taken me 4 years to get it this far, and will likely take another 2 to get it anywhere near completion.

Graphics will be an issue with any game if you cannot use a 3D package of some kind. I personally cannot make people, I just can't seem to make anything remotely useful. Watching video tutorials makes it worse as they seem to have an uncanny knack of knowing exactly where to put everything and how to avoid problems( like 5 sided polys). So I have to struggle along with graphics I can buy or get free. This always narrows any game ideas I have down to what media I can use, and how much of one type I have, which is not that much generally. Bear that in mind with any project you want to make. You may have a really great idea for a game set in the future, but if you only have medieval type graphics you are kind of stuck, and vice versa.
If you are just starting, and I am guessing you are. You will be better off doing small projects to get your eye in. Start with text manipulation with say, a hangman game. That would teach you almost all you need to know about using text in games. I know it probably sounds boring, but smaller projects are the way to go. No one is going to be able to jump straight in and make a mmorg, or even an rpg to be honest, unless they are already programming geniuses in other languages already.
One method I use for level design at present is FPS Creator free. I design a level in that then load it into DB. It is one of the best methods to make nice looking levels with pre baked shadows and lights included. Also the media issue is relived a little as I have a fair few model packs for it and so have a decent(ish) choice of location graphics now. Just not enough people

Here's the truth. Make an arcade game first, it's easy, fun, and you gain experience. I've made several arcade games and i am switching to DGDK, and guess what i plan on making first? That's right an arcade game. Since your questions have been (basically) answered, i'll help you out with your programming hobby/career.

(also for #3, you'd basically just have the models of the characters cut into parts and swap them out when the user customizes it)

I started out like you, wanting to make a MMORPG in DBP, but after making a rather large (and inefficient) FPS which included a way to add several guns with little struggle. It was probably my biggest project to date, but i hated it. Not only did it just rot on my hard-drive, it seems like every line of code i added to it made it slower and slower, no matter how much i optimized my code. MMORPG's arent 1,000s of lines of codes, not even tens of thousands of lines of code, talk about millions of lines of code! And you need a way to update it without re downloading the client. You also need a crafting system, way to link web with your servers, way to host your servers. You need to basically start small and build your way up! Just my advice :3 take it or leave it! You will learn things that will make your code faster, easier to read, and of course shorter.
