Im new to this darkbasic thing and what I have seen so far really impresses me. There are a couple questions I'd like to know the answers to though:

1. Why do games produced in DB have graphics that look 5-6 yrs old? Is it just that most people dont have access to really good 3d rendering or is it a limitation of db?

2. Almost all of the games ive seen so far that have been produced in db are rather small games. Is it just that people dont have the patience to create larger games or are large games hard to pull off in db?

As it is I will probably end up buying db pro either way but i'd kind of like to know what to expect in these areas.

Thanks
Andrew

They dont look that old, it depends on what game you are making, and it depends what software you are buying for that game such as enemies, world etc.

Well actually i asked this same question LOL, it's just you have t start small, you cant just rush things, but still you could start by making the game that you want but with les things in it.

Hopes this helps

My game will make sure Final Fantasy will never be forgotten.
Remember me because my game will be in the shops in a year or 2.

because thats how the developers make them,
there are some professional looking titles floating around - its all about art abilities though.

Yes, indeed - the 3D Majhong graphics are great - and some of the graphics we saw at the demo were fantastic.

I don't think you realize how much time is needed to put into large games. Quite a few games are just made by people who are doing it for fun. (i.e. they have other jobs). To make games like Warcraft3 you need not only to have skill but incredible amounts of time.

The reason the graphics are often simple is because it isn't easy to produce great graphics. Most companies hire graphical artists to make there images. Most people here just do some in there spare time.

I think the fact of the matter is no DB will not make huge games with great graphics like many games you buy for PC. Why? Not because DB can't do it but because you can't. Those kind of games for about 98% of people who think they would like to give it a shot are just out of reach. Don't be discouraged, for most people it will just require too much time.

I remember seeing this somewhere on the site "Your only limit is your imagination and dedication" dedication be the operative word. It would take hundreds if not thousands of hours for only a couple people to make a huge game.

Don't be discouraged though. If you want to get into programming games as a hobby then just try to make simple fun games. I personally love to play games knowing how much work was involved in it. Also don't do it to make money. That would be a bad idea aswell. Do it to have fun. Do it for the challenge. Do it so others can have fun.

I hope I haven't discouraged you but that is the truth. Perhaps you can prove me wrong. Good luck!

Oh believe me I do realize how much time goes into making games. I know that for quite a long time I will be doing very small games, I just wanted to know that there is room for the possibility of larger games and better graphics using db, given the time and experience necessary.

You guys have all answered my questions well. Thanks.
