Yesterday I started to think about what FPSC could need.
Than the idea came up to add LightRays into the newest FPSC Source Code (in which the build game does not work, so I can not provide any testlevel!).

So I started doing it and for now it works very well.
I also want to share my work with all the guys who are working on the 118 version FPSC and maybe get some fixes for the LightRay code, so they can contact me on "[email protected]".

But for now, I want to show you some screenshots I did from the latest version of the mod (the first 3 images are from the first version, so ignore the black models ).

I hope a developer gets in contact, so I can help bringing FPSC to the next level (and build game support back up running... xD ).

I also love: Comments and Critic!

DG

UPDATE:

I added the Download link for the Demolevel and the Demolevel update, so you can now try the LightRays.

for now it still runs on 60frames per second!

So I would say no FPS hit

Your deferred rending mod must be resurrected in the new FPSC source.

It would solve a lot of issues with memory limitations and long build times for static lightmapping. Ideally you want 1 dramatic light source in a room which creates the dynamic shadows with a few smaller static support lights.

I was interested to see ID software actually took a step backwards from Doom3 totally dynamic lighting and shadows to a mixture of static and dynamic lightmapping in Rage so maybe thats the way to go.

Did you made the shader, or is the shader from Evolved?

Good work on implementing.

it is dynamic light you can tell from the video how the light bleed though the floor.but only one problem with that. lightmap shader only works static objects and segments.but its nice to know im not the only one that can see lightmap is a memory hog.but you lose both ways dynamic eats performance.

more than what meets the eye

I added a download link for a demolevel in the first post, so all of you can now try out the LightRay "Mod" for yourself.

I really suggest to download the update "001" so the bug with the bloom shader is fixed.
All you have to do, to get rays and bloom working together, is to change the "postprocessing" line in the "setup.ini" from "3" (only LightRays) to "4" (Rays+Bloom).

I hope you enjoy the Level

Download also here:

Nice, it's almost as good as the light rays in UDK - no small feat!

Can you tweak the light ray colouration, blur size, etc?

Out of curiosity, how does such a shader work, is it like bloom, or something else entirely?

Hey guys,

here two screenshots for people they own no fast internet connection
and have no possibility to download that demo.

In that screens I'm using another values in the shader, normally is that effect not so strongly.

For all their screenshots are not enough, here a small video:

Is this for sure going into the official migration source? Also since it can be used with bloom, can it be used with bond1's filmgrain + adaptive bloom shader you combined for us, Dark Goblin?

@Wraith Staff: the combined shader is already used in the demo ^^
it uses the basic fpsc shader, which is used, only in combination with the light rays.

I want it to go into the official migration source, but thats not up to me. If they want it, they can contact me!

Very, very impressive it adds a completely new dimension to a games appearance, actually helps to immerse the player in the environment.
I would hope this could be easily integrated into the next beta, look forward to using it, nice.

You know DarkGoblin, Lee has made his source code open source. I think he would be very open to including this into the source. I would definitely contact him. He is not that "unapproachable" you know.

ZockerX has created a little video showing the new effect "Depth of Field".
You can not see it at all times, but it does its job.

An update for you to try comes, after I fixed the last problems.

Also I want to announce, that both (LightRays and DoF) will find its way into the official FPSC Updates.

This looks great. We are very impressed with the effects you have produced. This is something that gives developments that *polish* to make it complete.

Thank you both for your time and efforts to show this.

So after I got the latest 1.18 Source Code from knxrb, I started to add all the shader effects into the new source.
Right now only the LightRay shader works (because I havent started editing the render techniques for the other shaders) but I was able to test them with weapons.

After 3 hours of headache, because it was not working like it should, it now works perfectly.
But have a look for yourself:

So let me get this straight; depth of field, light rays, Post-processing/filmgrain, boost AND adaptive bloom can all be used together?! Tell me it's so Add motion blur and I just may faint

But if you could do a volumetric lighting system you could make it better like the pictures:
The first one has no volumetric lighting but the second one has:

Please read the ReadMe, because it describes needed steps, for the Mod to work properly.

Please give me some feedback and I hope you have fun.
